London Stuff

September 26, 2019 by nflinlondon

Are you coming to visit London in 2019 for one of the many NFL games?
Is it your first time and not sure what to do?
Well, we have lived here for a long time, so as expats we can give you a top ten list of things that might help you in your journey over here.
Here is one of our (many) lists of things to do when you’re over here.

Getting Around
Get an Oyster Card. These bad boys of travel allow you to jump on the tube, bus, overground, DLR, and some boats. Just top it up after buying it, and it will figure out your journey.
If there is more than 3 of you then you might want to consider getting a taxi.
Download the app citymapper to help plan how to get around.

Food
If you’re coming from North America, you will notice that food is smaller, fresher and tastes different. You’re travelling-get use to it. London has loads of great restaurants, so feel free to try different cuisines. London has some of the best Indian food on the planet-so make a trip to Bricklane to find out. We would not recommend some of the big chains-as the food is pretty dire. Also the burgers in London aren’t as good as home (no matter what they tell you) so avoid the fancy burger joints and their charcoal pucks.

Nightlife
Sadly, London is not a 24 hour city. The lack of late night haunts and places to go after midnight is deplorable.
There are some bars, and areas-but you will need to be prepared to leave at any moment.
Avoid casinos in London as well, as they are cheaper, tackier versions of US casinos with horrible food and service. You will probably lose a wallet at the central casinos as well.

Tipping
Tipping is encouraged at certain places, but read the bottom of the menu or your receipt. If it says ‘15% gratuity included’, then don’t worry about it.
In the end it comes down to humanity. Did this person carry your bags, make you feel welcome, or make your stay more enjoyable? Then a few quid goes a long way.

We will continue to update you on advice, and feel free to reach out so that we can help you on your London journey even more.

Week 3 Predictions

September 24, 2019 by nflinlondon

Whew!
What a week in the NFL!
How did you do in your week 3 predictions?

Wade & Ryan make their picks every Friday for the podcast, and now we have the results in…Wade totally smoked Ryan!

Ryan went a respectable 8-8 for the week, a healthy 500-with all of his attention focused on his Buffalo Bills.
Ryan did get caught up in some of his ’emotional’ picks, but was able to ride some of his into a good weekend of predictions.

Wade on the other hand totally nailed this week, going 14-2 and killing some of the top picks that he had for the weekend.

Among some of Wade’s top picks for the week:

Detroit Lions
Wade had them to win the game outright, and they did at that, plying on the pressure on the Philadelphia Eagles who were injured and outmatched.

Panthers
When Cam is out, it’s time for the team to shine-which is exactly what happened. Christian McCaffery was on fire-blasting through the helpless Arizona Cardinals defence with ease.

Giants
Teams play to their best, when they need to impress. The Giants were able to impress upon the Bucs defence just how much Daniel Jones wanted this.
They did indeed.

If you took Wade’s picks-congrats! You probably won a lot of money this week.
If you took Ryan’s…hope you broke even.

London-Food

September 24, 2019 by nflinlondon

Many people lament British food.
Deep fried, boiled, or over-cooked are your standard misnomers about British cuisine, and rightly so for a few decades.
But no more.
London is on the food map baby, and there are loads to try when you get over here.

Insider magazine has compiled their list of the top places to eat in London, and we can agree with many of their top picks.

One thing we would suggest are some of the top food markets in London.
Many of these aren’t open daily, so it’s worth checking to see where and when you can grab some lovely nosh from these places.

Some we would suggest:

Borough Market
Num num. Located right near London Bridge station and the Shard, this venerable market has loads of yummies on offer. Not only is it a standard food market, but there are also loads of fresh, hot stalls of food to tempt you as well. Try to go mid-morning during office hours as it is generally quieter then.

Berwick Street Market
Located in Soho amongst throngs of media companies, this 300 year old market is anything but old. Smack dab in the middle of the road, this daily food market caters to many of the people who work in the newly painted offices. Open from 11am to 3pm, you can find loads of foodie options here.

Box Park-Shoreditch
Head to where the hipsters hang, for a truly unique feast. The Boxpark Market is on the edge of Shoreditch, and close to Old Street station. Loads of food and drink options in a market that is open late with some cool bars. If you’re lucky-you might be able to get into the Shoreditch House across the road.

Ep 63-Week 3 Preview

September 21, 2019 by nflinlondon

So what’s going to happen in week 3 of the NFL?
With so many quarterbacks broken and shaken, will some teams be able to complete a winning season?

Wade & Ryan look at all of the key matches this week, and add their ‘expert’ analysis to predict who will win some of these games.
What games should you be looking at for victory.

Some of the key games the guys look at are:

Broncos (0-2) vs Packers (2-0)
The Broncos limp into Lambeau facing a team that hasn’t really lived up to expectations. Wade believes that Aaron Rodgers is injured, and will face a tough contest here.
The Broncos need to get their D together.

Bengals (0-2) vs Bills (2-0)
Ryan is getting high on his own supply, believing the Bills to be the next messiah. But will they be able to joust Andy Dalton and co.? Yes. Bills are facing the Patriots in Week 4, so this will be a viable test game.

Ravens (2-0) vs Chiefs (2-0)
Here’s a guy…that everyone is looking forward to watching.
The Ravens and Lamar Jackson have people believing, but they haven’t faced anyone like the Chiefs yet. Look for Mahomes to roll on.

Raiders (1-1) vs Vikings (1-1)
The Vikings escaped a close one versus the Packers last week, and the Raiders held the Chiefs…for a bit. How will they do this week? Minnesota is at home…in a dome. That says it all.

Saints (1-1) vs Seahawks (2-0)
New Orleans was as crushed as Drew Trees hand after that huge loss to the Rams in Week 2. But will Teddy Bridgewater be able to toss this victory back to the Saints? Probably, but this will be one heck of a game.

Dolphins (0-2) vs Cowboys (2-0)
The Dolphins may very well be the worst NFL team of all time.
That’s all you need to know.

Join us Sunday at Belushi’s Hammersmith to watch all of the games.
See you Sunday.
