AFC South Peek

August 18, 2023 by nflinlondon

Preseason rumbles have already started, as we unload our AFC South Peek podcast this week, as well as popping in on some NFL news.

Wade and Ryan are back this week for another fun-filled podcast, where we look at the AFC South Peek predictions into how the teams might rank this season.
The guys haven’t done their predictions for records just yet, this is just a look at how it all could lay out.

If you want to listen to the full podcast, make sure that you grab it all right here.

NFLinLondon · AFC South Peek-Ep 255
As for the rest of the NFL news the guys chat about.

Dalvin Cook

It’s finally settled, star running back Dalvin Cook has finally agreed to terms with the New York Jets, giving Aaron Rodgers an even more valuable asset this season to pip for the AFC East division winner.

Cook brings with him loads of experience and break-through ability, but his age and lack of a self O line might hamper his efforts this season if the Jets don’t fix this glaring problem.
With all that, the Jets now have a multi-pronged running game with the fast outside speed of Hall, and the bust right through you style of Dalvin.
It’s all or nothing New York for two more years.

Redskins

Native American groups have raised over 100,000 signatures in their effort to get Washington to revert the name back to the Washington Redskins.
Despite the efforts of many white people to cancel the name, NAGA and many native groups point to the original context of the Redskins name, and that it is complimentary rather than racist.
What do you think? Should Washington oblige by the many natives who see it as a legacy to their struggles, or should they change it to something more contemporary?

Feed Zeke

Somebody finally fed Ezekiel Elliot, and it didn’t take a Food Network marathon to make it happen.
The New England Patriots have come to terms to bring Zeke into the Pats fold, and give them even more opportunities to not use Mac Jones this season.
Zeke will split carries with Stevenson, robbing fantasy owners of those precious goal line gobbles that Zeke is famous for.
The Patriots are in for an interesting season, with both Ryan and Wade pegging the Pats to finish last in their division.
Does Bill Belichick have something sneaky up his sleeves this season to even the score in the AFC East, or will they need their D to avoid being a laughing stock?

AFC South Peek

The former dumpster fire that was the AFC South is no more, as that title has passed to their cousins in the NFC South.
The AFC South still offers a hot holy mess of garbage, as the Colts have gone full Toxic-Britney, with Irsay drunkenly tossing out hurt like a currency.
He’ll fly a whale across the world, but screw JT and all he’s done for us!
The Texans have also been plagued by inner-toxicity, with many stars fleeing Houston like the franchise had bed bugs.
With some smart coaching changes and finally learning from their past draft errors, the Texans might actually win some games this season.
Tunsil and Pierce are shining lights for a team that always has a way of beating divisional punks at home.
The Titans might have swallowed too much Ozempic, as their stomachs and size have shrunk as of late.
Ryan Tannehill would have been shot in the back of the head at Indy by now, but Tennessee figures to get another year out of the old guy.
With a weakened O-line, is it really going to give D-Hopkins that space he needs to get a ball downfield?
Jacksonville Jaguars seem to have finally matured into the dominant force in the division.
The Urban Meyer year behind them, Pederson has taken this squad into a potentially difficult playoff opponent with a team that is tough across both sides.
Trevor Lawrence finally gets to unbox Calvin Ridley, and Etienne should have another decent year being that stout line.
Well if you can guess it, Wade and Ryan both agreed that the AFC South will follow:
1-Jaguars 2-Titans 3-Texans 4-Colts
That’s it for our AFC South Peek, make sure you listen to the podcast and reach out!

Top 10 NFL Coaches of All Time

May 26, 2023 by nflinlondon

Let’s shake up the Argument Tree by asking who are the ‘Top NFL Coaches of All Time’!
Sure this kind of click bait type of headline is sure to fire up some of our ardent fans, but don’t worry, we let ChatGPT do it.
Not to miss out on the digital-slavery part of history, we sequestered an AI to craft an article on the ‘Top 10 NFL Coaches of All Time.’

So how does it do? Let’s find out and take a look at the list.

The National Football League (NFL) has witnessed countless coaching greats who have left an indelible mark on the game. These strategic masterminds have steered their teams to glory, sculpting dynasties and inspiring generations of players. In this article, we dive into the fascinating world of NFL coaching to bring you the top 10 coaches of all time. Brace yourself for a blend of informative insights, quirky anecdotes, and a dash of humor as we celebrate these legendary figures.

  1. Vince Lombardi – The Perfectionist Maestro:

Kicking off our list is none other than Vince Lombardi, the epitome of coaching excellence. Known for his relentless pursuit of perfection, Lombardi led the Green Bay Packers to five NFL Championships, including the first two Super Bowl victories. His stern demeanor and iconic quotes like, “Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing,” still resonate within the football community. Lombardi was a true legend and set the benchmark for greatness.

  1. Bill Belichick – The Hooded Genius:

No top 10 list would be complete without the modern-day coaching genius, Bill Belichick. The mastermind behind the New England Patriots’ dynasty, Belichick’s meticulous attention to detail and ability to adapt are unparalleled. Whether it’s his poker-faced sideline demeanor or his affinity for hoodies, Belichick’s success and his dry wit make him a force to be reckoned with and a man of few words, unless you mention the Jets!

  1. Don Shula – The Winningest Coach:

Don Shula, the iconic coach of the Miami Dolphins, etched his name in the annals of NFL history. With 347 career victories, he holds the record for the most wins by a head coach. Shula’s wit and leadership helped him lead the Dolphins to two Super Bowl victories and an undefeated season in 1972, earning him the nickname “Donnie Football.” He might not have always smiled, but when he did, it was usually followed by a victory.

  1. Bill Walsh – The Architect of a Dynasty:

Bill Walsh’s innovative offensive strategies revolutionized the game. As the architect of the San Francisco 49ers’ dynasty in the 1980s, he introduced the groundbreaking West Coast offense. Known for his attention to detail, Walsh’s humor often came through in his “Walshisms” – pithy one-liners that kept players on their toes. The combination of his wit and strategic genius earned him a place among the greatest coaches of all time.

  1. Tom Landry – The Stetson-Wearing Legend:

Tom Landry, the iconic coach of the Dallas Cowboys, epitomized class and style on the sidelines. Sporting his trademark fedora, Landry led the Cowboys to two Super Bowl victories and appeared in five. His calm and composed demeanor earned him the nickname “The Man in the Hat.” Under that cool exterior, Landry’s dry sense of humor added an extra dimension to his coaching prowess.

  1. Chuck Noll – The Steeler of Success:

Chuck Noll is synonymous with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ success in the 1970s. Noll’s calm and composed approach helped him build a dynasty, guiding the Steelers to four Super Bowl wins. Known for his witty comebacks and playful banter with players, he balanced authority and camaraderie to create an environment of excellence. Noll’s coaching style reminds us that humor and success can go hand in hand.

  1. Joe Gibbs – The Racing Champion Turned Coach:

Joe Gibbs, a former NASCAR racing team owner, transitioned seamlessly into coaching and found remarkable success with the Washington Redskins. Known for his sharp wit and humor, Gibbs led the Redskins to three Super Bowl victories. His ability to motivate players and his strategic brilliance made him a beloved figure both on and off the field. Whether he was calling plays or cracking jokes, Gibbs knew how to keep the team fired up and laughing their way to victory.

  1. Paul Brown – The Innovative Mastermind:

Paul Brown, the founder and original coach of the Cleveland Browns, was a true innovator. He introduced a host of new strategies and techniques that revolutionized the game. Brown’s dry sense of humor and quick wit added an extra dimension to his coaching prowess. His famous quote, “The key to being a good manager is keeping the people who hate you away from those who are still undecided,” showcases his ability to lighten the mood while staying focused on success.

  1. Bill Parcells – The Big Tuna:

Nicknamed “The Big Tuna,” Bill Parcells left an indelible mark on the NFL with his tough, no-nonsense coaching style. Parcells’ ability to turn struggling teams around and lead them to success is legendary. His dry humor often came through in his press conferences, leaving reporters both amused and perplexed. Parcells had a knack for delivering punchy one-liners, making him as entertaining off the field as he was formidable on it.

  1. George Halas – The Founding Father:

Rounding out our list is the legendary George Halas, the founder of the Chicago Bears and one of the architects of the NFL itself. Halas’ coaching career spanned over four decades, during which he led the Bears to six NFL Championships. Known for his fiery personality and sharp wit, Halas was a true pioneer of the game. He once quipped, “Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it,” a sentiment that perfectly encapsulates his commitment to excellence.

Conclusion:

The top 10 NFL coaches of all time have left an enduring legacy on the sport, achieving remarkable success while injecting humor and wit into the game. From the perfectionist ways of Vince Lombardi to the dry humor of Bill Belichick and the witty banter of Joe Gibbs, these coaching greats have inspired players and fans alike.

Their ability to lead, strategize, and entertain has solidified their places in football history. As we celebrate these legends, let us not only cherish their coaching achievements but also appreciate the smiles, laughter, and occasional comedic relief they brought to the intensity of the game.

Not a bad job for an AI, although we would comment that the list is notably lacking any coaches of colour, as well as Nathaniel Hackett.

March Breaking

March 13, 2023 by nflinlondon

Things are heating up in the NFL as free agents begin to trickle down, trades are made, and deals are done as we take a look at it all in March Breaking.

It feels like it’s all about to kick off, as teams start to make the moves that will determine their 2023 fate, and the seismic shifts in who ends up where start to become transparent.

Let’s take a look at some of the big news that has been happening.

Bear Down

It didn’t take long for the Bears to goose away their golden pick this year, as the QB hungry Panthers traded up with Chicago to secure the first round pick.
Spoiler alert-it won’t be a kicker that they choose.

Rumour had it that the Bears were looking for a butt-load in return for their pick, and boy did they get it.

The Bears will receive the numbers 9 and 61 picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, a first round pick in 2024, and a second round pick in 2025.
Not only that, the Panthers tossed in stellar wide receiver DJ Moore, further liquidating Carolina’s potential to do anything offensive next year.

It’s a great deal for Chicago, who not only have a stud receiver for Fields to toss to, they also have the most cap space to be able to build around him.

Carr Saints

Derek Carr is off to New Orleans, when the Saints made an offer that he couldn’t refuse.

Carr joins a division that is suckity-suck at best, and has the potential to take the raw and rough Saints and dirty them up a bit.

On paper Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara and Olave sound like perfect targets for Carr, but of course it’s all going to come down to coaching.

Rodgers That

This could be the week folks, that we learn what Aaron Rodgers is going to do with his life.

Of course Rodgers would save his drama for Oscars week, as he tries to get his name in the press ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once.’

The biggest unkept secret is that Aaron Rodgers will be moving on to the New York Jets, to make one of the toughest divisions in football even trippier.

With the Packers seemingly saying ‘bye-bye’ to Rodgers, his only other option would be retirement, and that seems like a harsh buzz at this point in his career.

Worst Game of Tag

It’s tag time, as team’s start to throw down franchise tags on sulky players who might want to leave.

Lamar got tagged again for a third time, bulking up a bunch of cash the Ravens will have to pay one day.
How long can they continue to drag the man along before you’re willing to commit?

Saquon signed back again with the Giants, but one would hope that they would try to fins a long term deal rather than the tag game.

Pollard and Josh Jacobs were wise tags from teams that will need to rely on their running games for the year ahead, given the gaps at QB.

The best tag of all was the Jaguars taking Evan Engram, who was a force of light and yardage last year, given Trevor Lawrence plenty of options and hope for the year ahead.

Jalen Gone

The Dolphins made another big offseason move, signing Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey for a 3rd round pick and TE Hunter Long.
The Rams are pretty much just dumping his salary as they skulk back into the shadows of ‘non-contenders’.

It’s a great opportunity for Ramsey, who will join a Dolphins squad that is only really missing a healthy quarterback.

Speaking of which…Tom Brady lives in Florida.

Make sure you check out our feeds this week as we look at all of the crazy free agent moves happening in the league.

Super Bowl 57 Review

February 14, 2023 by nflinlondon

Holy smokes, what a game that was on Sunday, as we look at what went down in our Super Bowl 57 Review.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the Super Bowl champions once again, after a 38-35 victory in Arizona.
It was a back and forth battle all game, but it was the heroics of Patrick Mahomes once again that did the work necessary to get the W and hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Eagles played valiantly, and Jalen Hurts would have been the game MVP with his touchdown performance had the game gone the other way.

Let’s take a look at some of the key takeaways from the big game in our Super Bowl 57 Review.

Kansas City Chiefs

All hail the Chiefs, who had to listen to the odes to Buffalo and Cincy all season, before getting the respect they demanded with a Super Duper performance.

Kansas City seemed to struggle a bit to get the right momentum in the first half.
The defence played fast and fierce on the line, shutting down anything that moved past it, but behind the Eagles O line, they struggled to contain Philly as the second half wore on.
Mahomes ill-fated ankle once again looked to be injured, sending the hopes of ChiefsKingdom everywhere into serious doubt.

Whatever happened in that locker room at half-time set the tone for the game, as the Chiefs changed the game in the second, making the Eagles play catch-up.
Andy Reid wisely switched to heavy run game that was able to find outside lanes for key yards, and Patty M was able to dissect the Eagles secondary for big gains.
Toney’s punt return also helped put the nail in a Philadelphia team that just couldn’t rally when it was time.

Philadelphia Eagles

You have to give to Philly for the road they took to get to Super Bowl 57, and there solid performance throughout the season and post. The Eagles may have lost, but they will be post season candidates for a while.

Jalen Hurts Wass truly a beast on Sunday, and if wasn’t for that sloppy drop that led to a pick 6, the game might have been very different.
While it took a while for Philly to find their stride in the first half, they seemed to be able to be on the right path to victory with a 10 point lead heading into the half.

The second half was another story for the Eagles, who much vaunted D left some pretty huge gaps for Mahomes and Kelce to fill. How they let so many zone holes with no one around was very perplexing. You know you’re playing against the best QB in the league right?

Heads held high Philly, if you would have won, you would still be cleaning up your broken city right now.

The Call

Penalties called in the final two minutes of the Super Bowl better be pretty damn important, or they are not worth calling.
It’s tough to say if this one was.

When now-hated ref Carl Cheffers flagged Eagles cornerback James Bradberry for holding on Juju Smith-Schuster, it allowed the Chiefs to not only get the first down, but shut down the game and clock.

Bradberry would later admit that the refs got it right, but that still doesn’t address the real issue, or an even bigger problem with refs this season.

The last two minutes of the Super Bowl should only be penalties that are so damn obvious and egregious that you HAVE to call them. Otherwise, play on.

Rihanna

Let’s not forget about the half time show of Super Bowl 57, which many Super Bowl party attendees know, is only watched by about 30% of your crowd. Everyone else is either pissing, getting pissed, pissed off about the game, or doesn’t give a shit about the artist.
True NFL fans remember the class and dignity of ‘Up With People’ and like it gosh-nammit.

It was Rihanna’s halftime y’all, as she paid the NFL over $1million to karaoke shuffle some of her greatest hits, rub her crotch, sniff her fingers, and announced she was pregnant again.
Sorry was this a halftime show, or was there going to be a gender reveal, didn’t see that in the prop bets?

The performance was anchored by some very Squid Game looking backing dancers, which gave some the impression that perhaps they might be sacrificed in some ritualistic contest to fed Rihanna’s unborn.
‘When bitch better have my money comes on, jump off the elevated platform!’

The real star of Super Bowl 57 was ASL interpreter Justina Miles, whose performance certainly shone like a diamond, and whose lip-synching was far better than Rihanna’s.

Gronk’s Kick

The much touted field goal attempt by Rob Gronkowski turned out to be a turd, as Gronk shanked it left.

Gronk blamed a ‘sudden change in wind’ as the cause of his mistake, which sounds like a line he and his brothers bring out a lot when it’s chilli night.

Although it was billed as ‘live’, it looked like the thing was pre-recorded in an Arby’s parking lot.

The real winner was no one, especially Gronk.

End in the end, it was an amazing Super Bowl 57, and the third highest watched ever with over 113 million people in America tuning in.

The season is done, and us NFL fans have no entertainment for the next 8 months, and that is it for our Super Bowl 57 Review.
Or until the XFL..or USFL..or CFL…give us football!!!

Bears in London

November 15, 2022 by nflinlondon

The NFL tickled us with a treat this week, as Chicago took advantage of the new international marketing areas to host the Bears in London on Sunday.

What a fun night of action, and thanks for hosting us!

Home Marketing

With the NFL going fully international this year, the league announced last year that they would allow certain teams to market directly to global fans.

The United Kingdom had six teams granted rights to perform this, with the Jaguars, Vikings, Dolphins, Jets, 49ers and Bears getting the royal treatment here.

This was the Bears first attempt at hosting one of these parties, and they did a lot of things right.

Flat Iron Party

The Bears opted to host the party in London’s Flat Iron area, just round the corner from London Bridge station.

While the area was popular when the NFL was in town, it did seem like a rather odd location given how quickly the area empties on a Sunday, as well as being hosted underneath the train tracks.

The hype was obvious at entry, as cheery marketing folk handed out raffle tickets, and encouraged fans to participate in some of the many trivia and cheer games they had prepared.
Some of the games were funny, some cheesy, and there were times fans just wanted the game back on as they battled the Lions, but the good nature of the event and £7 pints had Bears fans rollicking.

Bringing in the Bears hype man to host the event did bring a deep dish authenticity to the event, and he was genuinely surprised at just how damn knowledgeable UK Bears fans are at trivia.
The only wrong answers seemed to be displayed in the Bears game play.

The Game

Heading into the game, the Bears were a three point favourite over a Lions team bolstered by a win over the Packers last weekend.

The awkward tension was palatable in the room, as the Lions erased the Bears lead, despite the gutsy and emotional play of Justin Fields.

Despite the loss, UK Bears fans were playful to the few Lions fans who snuck in, possibly bouyed by beers, Bears and Bears swag.

Speaking of swag, while it looked like they brought plenty, it didn’t seem like it reached many of the fans, as Bears loyals were seen packing branded, paper drinks coasters into their pockets for a little bit of take home legacy.

Or maybe people just didn’t want to be reminded of a one point loss.

Bear Down Future

Scrolling the Bears forums, the main complaints from fans around the event stemmed from it being last minutes, and in London, alienating many UK Bears fans who either can’t travel on Sunday nights, or can’t afford London prices.

Rumours from the Bears marketing staff on hand is that there could be more of these viewing events across the UK in the coming months.

Make sure to watch this space, and we will let you know where and when you can Beardown this NFL season.

All in all, it was a fun night of football, and a good sign of things to come.
