2024 NFL Draft

April 25, 2024 by nflinlondon

It’s that time of year again football fans, as the spring gives way to the thaw of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Eminem has assured us all that he will be giving commissioner Roger Goodell the ‘D’ for tonight, which should pair nicely with the boo’s that he will also receive.
Did we mention that Roger is finally appearing on the Pat McAfee Show for the Draft?
This night is getting even better!

For this edition of the NFL Draft, Wade and Ryan make their picks as to who they think will choose who where and when?
So many possibilities, and that doesn’t even factor into the chance that some teams might be getting QB hungry, and looking to move up to one of the better ones.

To make sure that you get to listen to our 300th episode of our podcast, make sure that you click the link here to get all of the goodness ahead of the big game.

-Giants grab DJ a wide receiver
Not too much in the way of spoiler alerts, so if you want to hear how it all goes down, make sure that you have a full listen to the podcast.

Other NFL News

Some other good/ bad and meh news ahead of the Draft, that may or may not factor into player choices.
  • New Orleans Saints offensive tackle James Hurst is retiring after 10 years. Harsh timing to retire the day before the Draft, as the Saints will need another piece to protect Derek Carr.
  • Reggie Bush will get his Heisman Trophy back after the NCAA admits that they ‘got it wrong.’ Ohtani actually bet $1 million that Reggie would get it back, so it all works out.
  • Chicago Bears have released their proposal for a $4 billion dollar makeover on Lake Michigan. It’s the first time in a long time that they have actually considered returning to the downtown core.

April Drama

Stefon Diggs

The drama of Diggs as a Bill is no more, as Stefon has shuffled off to Houston to the glee of Buffalo fans. It wasn’t long into the signing that the Texans then offered to buy Diggs out, showing that me might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

The Texans will have to eat $22.5 million just to see what Diggs can do this year, which seems a hell of a punt on a guy who couldn’t deliver for the past few seasons as an ageing wide-receiver.

Stop Driving

Rashee Rice was the latest NFL star to get caught doing dumb things in a car, after being busted trashing a Lambo in Dallas recently. When will these young guys learn to stop driving?

It should be mandated by each team to make new players sign an agreement not to drive drunk, silly, or just give them a driver or Uber credits in the offseason so they don’t kill any more people.

Louis Rees-Zammit

It’s looking good for Rees, who just signed a 3 year deal with the Chiefs that will have him play a key role in the new NFL kickoff rules. With rugby playing a key role in the NFL for 2024, there is a greta chance that Louis will be a big part of the Kansas City squad.

That’s it for this edition – tune in to our April Drama podcast episode today and join Ryan and Wade as they break down all the latest news and developments in the NFL. Whether you’re a seasoned fan or just getting into the game, their engaging discussion is sure to entertain and inform. Subscribe now and stay ahead of the curve with our NFL in London podcast.

Super Bowl Sunday

Have you made your plans for Super Bowl Sunday yet? If you’re having a party at home, just make sure to tag us with #nflinlondon so we can see what kind of set up you’re running!
Getting some of the fun out of the way….let’s get into the big game.

-2 San Francisco 49ers vs Kansas City Chiefs  +47.5

It’s a repeat of 4 years ago, when we hadn’t heard of Covid yet, but we had heard of Jackson Mahomes, and that was considered much worse.
As we remember from that game, the 49ers were up with only 7 minutes left to go, when some questionable calls, and Mahomes momentum were able to propel the Chiefs to victory.
So can that happen again?
The 49ers could be considered lucky to have made it this far, despite being the number 1 seed.
With marginal victories over the Packers, and Lions, the Niners have had to ‘dig deep’ to rally back, something that was a bit foreign to them.
Let’s also not forget that beating that they took at the hands of the Ravens at the end of the season that had many questioning their ability to put away good times.
Brock Purdy can get flustered, and this much hyped D has been gashed in the past few games by coaches who were able to find all the little holes.
San Fran are 2 point favourites, which also seems a bit of a surprise given the way that the Chiefs have played since December.
Patrick Mahomes has that special touch, whereas Jackson Mahomes, has that no so special touch.
Watching Patrick Mahomes in the postseason brings memories of Tom Brady, a guy who puts it all together when it matters most, to make those miraculous plays.
So how can the 49ers beat Mahomes when he plays like this?
Seriously.
Not only do we know that PM can rally his team with time to spare, but he can also rely on his solid defence to back them up and keep them in the game.
So why has Vegas given the 49ers the 2 points in a game where all signs are pointing to a Chiefs win?

Ryan Takes Chiefs

Despite the Chiefs taking out his Buffalo Bills once again, Ryan is backing the Chiefs to win their second ring in a row. He thinks that it will be a low-scoring, and plodding game, where the Chiefs D is able to choke out Brock Purdy for the win.

Wade Tomahawk Chops

Mmmm…tomahawk chops…the main thing that Wade thinks will be cooking on Sunday will be the Chiefs D, as Spagnoulo will have lots of tricks up his sleeves for Purdy and CM. He thinks that the Chiefs will get an early lead, the Niners will chip, but it should be another W for Kansas City.
Wade also thinks that Kelce will win the MVP after scoring 2 touchdowns.
Ryan-Chiefs 24-49ers 21
Wade-Chiefs 23-49ers 20
That’s it for our Super Bowl 58 picks, hope that you all have a fantastic Super Bowl Sunday!
Be dafe, and have fun!

Super Bowl in London

February 4, 2024 by nflinlondon

It’s that time of year again folks, as we get peppered with the big question of where to watch the Super Bowl in London.
With COVID finally in the clear, and the restaurant industry somewhat bouncing back, it seems like that people are going out again.
So let’s take a look at some of the places the Super Bowl in the UK and across London.

Watching the Super Bowl in London

We are hosting a few private parties again this year, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some great places to watch the big game.
With an 11:30pm start time, the Super Bowl will require venues to get a late license, something some of them forget when it comes to midnight (oops!).

So while we aren’t working with any bars directly this year, we can’t really recommend any of them with our having talked to the venue of looking at their set up and prices.
If you are a venue who is looking to promote your Super Bowl party in London, feel free to get in touch.

Home

The cost of living continues to bite, with the pint of a London pint now topping £7 for a tipple. Factor in buying rounds, food, and possibly tickets, and the price of going out to the Super Bowl is more than double what it was 5 years ago. Ouch.
ITV will be showing the Super Bowl, and being able to watch it at home means that you can not only save some dosh by not having to pay for overpriced beer, but you can also watch the game in your jammie pants.
Having mates around for the game can make for great traditions, especially if you add in pregame poker, bbq’s, Super Bowl squares and even some Madden to sweeten up the stakes.
A great Super Bowl home game is also a chance to be able to connect with many of your fantasy football teammates you never get a chance to connect in person with.

Casinos

London has several casinos in patches of the city that offer all night entertainment, and connectivity to transit. The Empire in Leicester Square has a sports bar, as do ones in Mayfair, and Stratford. Make sure that you contact the casino first to see if they have tables and what offers they might have. If you’re used to American sized casinos you will be shocked to find that many of their sports bar viewing options are quite small.

American Bars

There are plenty of American themed bars that are open late, and offer authentic Super Bowl experiences for fans. Hotel bars like the American Bar or Duck and Waffle offer premium menus and sophisticated ways to watch the Chiefs vs 49ers.

Bars

Again, we can’t vouch for any of these bars who are offering Super Bowl parties on social media, but from experience we can offer some words of caution when looking to book.
How late does the late license go until? Some venues might only get it until 1am, forcing viewers to scoot home to catch the second half. When do you stop serving? Some licenses might only have a liquor license until 1am as well.
If they usually don’t show the NFL, then you might be in for a frustrating experience, and menus are often subpar, an ‘pub chain’ microwave in the bag portions.
The worst Super Bowl parties are the ones where you are your friends have to head home after a night of bad service, 1 tv, and just sadness.

If you have some places you would like to promote, get in touch and we can look at how we can help. Hope that helps some fans looking to branch out for their own Super Bowl parties in London.
