18 Candles

January 9, 2022 by nflinlondon

It’s finally the end of the NFL regular season, as we head into the playoffs.

There is particular reason to celebrate this year, as the league was able to overcome COVID, fake vax certificates, Aaron Rodgers, AB, and the addition of another week of regular season play to topple all the old records.

In honour of making it this far, we offer up our 18 Candles podcast, where Wade & Ryan celebrate this extra week of games, by making their picks and predictions for all the games.

Make sure you check out our podcast here, where you can listen to all of the guys predictions for the Week 18 games.

NFLinLondon · 18 Candles-Ep 182

Among some of the games that the guys look at in this podcast includes:

-4 Packers (13-3) vs Lions (2-13-1)  +44.5

The Packers have secured the top seed again, as they coast into the playoffs that have thwarted them for the past decade. With Aaron Rodgers and most of the starters expected to rest, this is a great chance for some of the backups to get some field time.

The Lions have had a woeful, yet inspired season thus far. Despite being the worst team in the league to start the season, the Lions have had some emotional games that have had fans applauding their resilience.

Wade & Ryan both think that this game will be close, although Wade has the plucky Lions winning the game off the inspired play of Jared Goff and the St. Brown.
Ryan likes the Packers to still win the game, but thinks that Detroit could keep it close.

Ryan- Packers 23 Lions 20
Wade- Lions 21 Packers 18

-15.5 Colts (9-7) vs Jaguars (2-14) +44

Indianapolis needs this win to keep them in the playoffs, as well as to upset much of the seedings heading into next week. Carson Wentz and the boys are ready to tumble these division rivals, and put the boot on their throat to move on.

Jacksonville is the worst team in the league…again. The Jags have played the Colts well though this year, keeping the games close despite the running phenom Taylor putting up some MVP like numbers.

Ryan thinks that the Colts will go out here, thrashing Jacksonville, and sending them limping home like Urban Meyer.
Wade points to the fact that the Colts tend to screw up big chances, and this is as big of a chance as any. He likes the Jags to keep it closer than expected.

Ryan- Colts 35 Jags 10
Wade- Colts 30 Jags 23

Bengals (10-6) vs -5.5 Browns (7-9) +38

How can the Browns be favoured in a game against their superior stat rivals?
One of the teams is going to the playoffs, and the other is going to play this game, and hope that they can figure it out in the offseason.

Joe Burrow and the Orange Cat gang can take it easy this week, as they throw out some of the back ups to try to get some field time against their Ohio foes. After an inspired win over the Chiefs last week, they have time to nurse their wounds and prepare for whomever they face on Wildcard Weekend.

Baker is done, Case is on it as the Browns shake and shimmy their line up for Week 18.
The Browns will likely rely on their running game, which has been effective and under used all season.

Ryan and Wade both like the Browns to get a more ‘needed win’ here, as many players might look to outshine their time under the Mayfield microscope.

Ryan- Browns 27 Bengals 10
Wade- Browns 24 Bengals 16

Auld Langs

December 31, 2021 by nflinlondon

Happy New Year everyone!

We hope that Santa was good to you, that you avoided this nasty flu that’s going around, and you made it to the finals of your NFL Fantasy Playoffs.

Wade and Ryan are back for another cross-Atlantic podcast, as we bid adieu to 2021, and hope for better things in 2022.

Week 17 is almost upon us, and the COVID exemptions are already starting to pile up, with over 200 players expected to be affected by Sunday.

If you’re in the know, and good at betting, you should be able to find some juicy picks out of the rumble of games slated to kickoff for Week 17 in our Auld Langs podcast.

We’ve got our podcast locked and loaded for you, so that you listen, relax and let the Joe Average aura of the guys take you to your happy place.

NFLinLondon · Auld Langs-Ep 180

Among some of the games the guys look at this week.

Dolphins (8-7) vs -3.5 Titans (10-5) +39.5

Tua and the fopping fish have had a heck of a season, winning seven straight games after losing 7 straight games, the only team to ever accomplish such a feat.
They sunk the Saints, but now look to a desperate Tennessee team who need the home crowd to help them take it over the top.

The Titans have suffered since losing Derek Henry earlier in the season. Without a smack in the face running game, they have had to rely on a Ryan Tannehill who lost most of the tools in his belt.

Ryan and Wade both like Tennessee to win, but Wade thinks that Miami should be able to keep in close with some of their receivers returning to health.

Ryan-Titans 23 Dolphins 16
Wade-Titans 21 Dolphins 18

-3.5 LA Rams (11-4) vs Ravens (8-7) +47

Matt Stafford and the Rams have everyone scratching their heads.
What was thought to be a wham bam, thank you kick in the West coast, has many wondering if Matt can carry the load he was expected to.
Bad back, defence that allows plenty of points, and losing Robert Woods took notch out of their depth.

Baltimore has been a steaming hot mess since Lamar went down, losing most of their D in the process.
Huntley was good, until he got injured, and hopefully one of them should be back this week.

Wade & Ryan agree that this is going to be one heck of a game, but that for the Ravens, this might be the more desperate time.

Ryan likes the Rams to grab and hold a good lead, while Wade figures the Ravens to be feisty enough to keep it close.

Ryan-Rams 27 Ravens 20
Wade-Rams 26 Ravens 25

-3.5 Eagles (8-7) vs Washington FT (6-9)  +45

Jalen Hurts is starting to play like his career depends on it, as the Eagles desperately chase one of the final playoff spots.
The Eagles have found some nuggets of gold in their roster this season, but have failed to develop their fortitude when it matters.

WFT is coming off a blowout by the Cowboys last week, in a game where they played every string left in the roster. They will have some of their main dudes back for Week 17, but with season slipping away, the motivation might be hard to come by.

Ryan is all over the Eagles in this one, taking Hurts and the boys for a smooth ride over a roughshot Washington team.

Wade believes that in these key moments, some teams just poop the bed, and this will be the case this week. When you want a win that bad, you often mess it up to spite yourself.

Ryan-Eagles 27 WFT 17
Wade-WFT 21 Eagles 20

That’s it for Week 17 picks, hopefully you find some wisdom in the ramblings.

Week 15 Memery

December 21, 2021 by nflinlondon

Week 15 of the NFL came in like a crazy virus, spinning the league right round, turning everyone on their head, and making us all dizzy.

Do they not realise that many of us are on the road to the playoffs and/or preparing our NFL fantasy teams for the onslaught of the post season Covidity?

Thankfully, the pictures and words word perfect for week 15, as we offer up some of the Week 15 Memery that has captivated us all.

What were some of the big meme themes to hit this week?

Tom Brady getting shut out for the first time in his career was CLASSIC! If you have ever wanted to trash a Microsoft touch tablet, Tommy will show you how to do it.

Detroit Lions claim their first win of the season! That means once again the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to take top seed in the draft next year.
Like a leaky boat, the Jags keep flushing down picks and coaches.

Here are some of the big memes! Enjoy and see you Sunday!

Home Marketing

December 17, 2021 by nflinlondon

The NFL announced this week that they have granted marketing rights to 18 teams across 26 territories around the world.

Global NFL fans were left to ask themselves, ‘what the heck does this mean? Am I getting a VHS tape of NFL games?’
Not really, you’re getting Home Marketing!

With this new acronym (IMHA), the NFL is allowing teams to reach out directly to the fans, and fan groups to help promote their team(s), as well as develop more of a global following.

If you are looking for some old VHS tapes of NFL games, now you can ask the teams directly!

What Does it Mean for NFL Fans?

Being an NFL fan around the world, means you don’t get as much ‘love’ as the average NFL fan stateside.

Not only do fans have to watch the games at an ungodly hour, but they must suffer through some of the more popular local sports like soccer…rugby…or The Masked Singer. Uggghh!

With this new Home Marketing plan, now fans and fan groups can directly work with the teams, and their marketing departments to offer a more comprehensive fan experience to those outside the country.

It means that fan groups can grow organically, and leaves less chance of fan groups being bullied by the league, local TV networks and bars for trying to support their favourite team(s).

UK Bound

The UK was one of the territories to be a part of this new program, with 6 NFL teams being selected to dance with the fans.

Although slightly less than Mexico’s 9 teams, the UK has once again been rewarded for having fans that not only truly the game, but also support it, no matter what kind of craziness is going on in the world.

NFL in London is one of the largest NFL promoters in Europe, so we will let you know what we hear, and any important news to NFL UK fans.

The six teams that have been selected to take part in the home marketing initiative in the UK includes:

Chicago Bears

Boasting one of the UK’s biggest Bear fans in our man Wade, this is exciting news for all Chicago fans.

The Chicago Bears are one of the few teams in the UK without an active social scene like some of the other fan clubs.
That could change with the Bears now able to pinpoint English fans, and provide them with plenty of Chicago Bears merchandise that has never been seen across the pond.

Welcome to London Chicago Bears!

Jacksonville Jaguars

It’s no surprise that the Jags were included in this list, given their boots on the ground policy from over a decade ago.

Jacksonville has continued to grow their UK fanbase, even while the home numbers dwindled.

Jags UK fans have suffered through expansion hiccups, the Bortles era, Minshew-Mania, and now Urban Decay…but they still keep coming back.

Shad Khan and the Jags team should be happy to reward such faithful fans over the years.

Minnesota Vikings

Tapping into their Scandi heritage, the Vikings have never shied from their European roots.

Minnesota has a new miracle, as the Vikes are another lucky team to be welcomed into the British fold.

The Vikings are another NFC north team to slip across the pond, and the fans couldn’t be happier!

Minnesota Vikings have a solid UK and European fanbase that truly deserves this honour, and will definitely not let the team down!

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have had a grip on the UK since the Marino and NFL Channel 4 years.

Miami has a surprising amount of fans in England, and might have something to do with the fact that the weather is exactly the opposite to the UK.

Poor Dolphins fans have also had a tough decade in the AFC East, watching TB12 and Billy Boy take title after title, despite a slew of draft picks.

If you needed a second NFL team from Florida, you got one now.

NY Jets

Ever since Jets owner Woody Johnson put the ‘ass; in Ambassador, the New York Jets have circled around the capital.

While Jets fans stateside have been wearing face coverings even before began, English fans have been able to travel in relative anonymity.

This will all change as the New York Jets are another team to grace our shores with their football.

It’s been a rough few years on the Jets, so be nice to them. Who knows you might even be able to make the team?

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisky? Hoo yeah!

Ever since Joe Montana did his thing in the 80s’, the 49ers have been a popular team logo to see on the streets of England.

San Fran and the 49ers are not only hugely popular in the UK, but they are also the most recent of all the teams to go to the Super Bowl!
So there’s that.

Welcome to the United Kingdom San Fran! Mind the gap.

NFL in London

For all those teams that don’t know us, why not reach out.

We love to host parties for all the fans, as well as get communities of fan groups involved in exciting activities.

Here we grow again NFL!

Biden Time

Joe Biden was out and about, and quick to remind NFL fans the need for health safety.

Or else he just hates Aaron Rodgers and wanted to make a fool of him.
