Super Bowl in London

February 4, 2024 by nflinlondon

It’s that time of year again folks, as we get peppered with the big question of where to watch the Super Bowl in London.
With COVID finally in the clear, and the restaurant industry somewhat bouncing back, it seems like that people are going out again.
So let’s take a look at some of the places the Super Bowl in the UK and across London.

Watching the Super Bowl in London

We are hosting a few private parties again this year, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some great places to watch the big game.
With an 11:30pm start time, the Super Bowl will require venues to get a late license, something some of them forget when it comes to midnight (oops!).

So while we aren’t working with any bars directly this year, we can’t really recommend any of them with our having talked to the venue of looking at their set up and prices.
If you are a venue who is looking to promote your Super Bowl party in London, feel free to get in touch.

Home

The cost of living continues to bite, with the pint of a London pint now topping £7 for a tipple. Factor in buying rounds, food, and possibly tickets, and the price of going out to the Super Bowl is more than double what it was 5 years ago. Ouch.
ITV will be showing the Super Bowl, and being able to watch it at home means that you can not only save some dosh by not having to pay for overpriced beer, but you can also watch the game in your jammie pants.
Having mates around for the game can make for great traditions, especially if you add in pregame poker, bbq’s, Super Bowl squares and even some Madden to sweeten up the stakes.
A great Super Bowl home game is also a chance to be able to connect with many of your fantasy football teammates you never get a chance to connect in person with.

Casinos

London has several casinos in patches of the city that offer all night entertainment, and connectivity to transit. The Empire in Leicester Square has a sports bar, as do ones in Mayfair, and Stratford. Make sure that you contact the casino first to see if they have tables and what offers they might have. If you’re used to American sized casinos you will be shocked to find that many of their sports bar viewing options are quite small.

American Bars

There are plenty of American themed bars that are open late, and offer authentic Super Bowl experiences for fans. Hotel bars like the American Bar or Duck and Waffle offer premium menus and sophisticated ways to watch the Chiefs vs 49ers.

Bars

Again, we can’t vouch for any of these bars who are offering Super Bowl parties on social media, but from experience we can offer some words of caution when looking to book.
How late does the late license go until? Some venues might only get it until 1am, forcing viewers to scoot home to catch the second half. When do you stop serving? Some licenses might only have a liquor license until 1am as well.
If they usually don’t show the NFL, then you might be in for a frustrating experience, and menus are often subpar, an ‘pub chain’ microwave in the bag portions.
The worst Super Bowl parties are the ones where you are your friends have to head home after a night of bad service, 1 tv, and just sadness.

If you have some places you would like to promote, get in touch and we can look at how we can help. Hope that helps some fans looking to branch out for their own Super Bowl parties in London.

Wildcard Picks

January 13, 2024 by nflinlondon

And just like that the NFL 2023-24 regular season is over, as we hit you with our Wildcard Picks podcast.
Who would have thunk that these were the teams that would be mounting the charge to glory when we started this season?

Here we are, as Ryan and Wade bust out their top tips for the Wildcard Picks podcast. If you want to listen to the whole cast in all its glory, just click on the link below.

NFLinLondon · Wildcard Picks-Ep 291

Saturday Games

-2 Browns (11-6) vs Texans (10-7)  +44.5

The Browns were a pleasant surprise entrant into the playoffs, thanks to the balls-out heroics of one Joe Flacco. Cleveland’s D has also been stout this year, with Myles Garrett looking to add some heads to his tombstone collection for Halloween. Too bad the Browns are one of the worst teams for turnovers, which could be their undoing in this game.
CJ Stroud is back, and despite losing Tank Dell and O lineman throughout the season, Stroud has been displaying rookie of the year stats and decision making. Houston is limping into the playoffs off a close win to Indy, so how much gas will they have in the tank against a Browns team that rested most of its starters last week?
Ryan thinks that the Texans will cause some problems for the Browns, but it will be Cleveland who gets the W on Saturday.
Wade is also on the Browns, although he thinks that the Texans will mount a fourth quarter charge to salvage an early beating.
Ryan-Browns 24 Texans 21
Wade-Browns 27 Texans 20

Dolphins (11-6) vs -4.5 Chiefs (11-6)  +43.5

It’s a repeat of the Frankfurt game, as a the score might be as low given the weather forecast to hit Missouri on Saturday night. Miami is battered and fried, after an up and down season that has seen plenty of talent fall by the sore-side. Can they mount that final push after getting smacked around by the Bills in the cold last week?
The Chiefs this year are not like any of the teams from past season because they are beatable in many ways. Most importantly, they seem to beat themselves more often that usual, which presents some opportunities for the Dolphins. An ageing Kelce, dropitis, and Patrick’s lack of sling-success could all be a factor in KC messing up their own fortunes.
Ryan is taking the Chiefs at home, but likes the Fins to keep it close. The snow and cold will be a factor here, so look at the under and the running backs to go over on carries.
Wade is also stumping on the Chiefs to win in a close one. Miami will make some adjustments, and they might even win this one if they can connect with Tyreek for big gains.
Ryan-Chiefs 27 Dolphins 25
Wade-Chiefs 23 Dolphins 20

Sunday Games

As for the Sunday games, you can hear all of the predictions on the Wildcard Picks podcast, but we can give you a little hint as to the way the guys are leaning.

Steelers (10-7) vs -10 Bills (11-6)  +35.5

Ryan loves his Bills at home, but is nervous that Tomlin is going to have some tricks he’s going to pull in the snow to make this a close game. Low scores for a game that is expecting a foot of snow during it.
Wade is also taking the Bills at home here, and agrees that the under is the best bet to go with. This will be a running game, so look for Josh Allen to go over on rushing yards.
Ryan-Bills 17 Steelers 9
Wade-Bills 20 Steelers 9
As for the rest of the games, the guys both agree on the following:
  • The Cowboys will beat the Packers at home. Wade thinks it will be a blowout, Ryan is calling a close game.
  • LA Rams pull an upset over the Lions. Detroit will get caught out by Matt Stafford and a red hot Rams squad.
  • Bucs beat the Eagles at home. Mike Evans is about to have a hell of a night.

That’s it for our Wildcard Picks and podcast. Make sure that you follow our socials, and look out for some exciting news coming down the pipeline.

Week 18 Picks

January 6, 2024 by nflinlondon

Happy New Year everyone, as we return from vacation with our Week 18 Picks podcast.
Hope everyone had a swell Christmas and that Santa brought you the gift of winning your NFL Fantasy pool. If you didn’t welcome to the sucky club, but that doesn’t mean that there still isn’t plenty of value in some bets, fantasy and more.

Week 18 picks can be tricky, since some teams are playing for everything, and a lot of teams are playing for nothing. When looking at game picks and predictions, there are numerous factors that can motivate a team from getting tape for a new team next year, to not wanting to hear home town boo’s one last time.

Wade and Ryan are over the lag of the jet, and ready to pop out their Week 18 picks. Remember that there are two Saturday games on as well, so saddle up for a weekend of NFL fun.

If you want to tickle yourself with the podcast of all the picks, and listen to the boys hash out their picks, just click on the link here, or find us on Apple, Spotify, etc.

NFLinLondon · Week 18 Picks-Ep 290

Saturday

Texans (9-7) vs -3 Colts (9-7)  +47.5

There are two games on Saturday, but we’re only going to touch on the first one in this article, as there are so many other games to look at than a listless and resting Ravens Steelers game.
The Texans have CJ Stroud back and the kid is cooking again. Despite losing some of his top receivers to injury, CJ might be able to get that magic back, and put himself in the chat of rookie of the year once again.

The Colts have had a good run after losing their new QB at the start of the year, but Minshew mania has dimmed in Indy. Shave off your moustaches kids, that was so Movember. It doesn’t help that the O line is soft, and aside from Pittman-the wide receivers are pretty inconsistent. Colts are favoured by 3 at home, but how motivated will they be in this contest?

Ryan likes the Texans in an upset, with CJ being too much for Indianapolis in the final week of the year.

Wade is also taking the Texans in an upset here, and expects CJ and Schultz to have some big connections and overs in this game.

Ryan-Texans 27 Colts 25
Wade-Texans 26 Colts 24

Sunday

Falcons (7-9) vs -3 Saints (7-9)  +42.5

The Falcons have almost found themselves in a playoff spot despite the bone-headed play calling of Arthur Smith throughout the season. With the moustache gone, the Falcons have been running again, as well as tightening up their run D to keep them in games. Maybe not last week against the Bears, but in their division, they know they have to win.

Carr and the Saints are like watching parents get divorced in a busy restaurant, while the kids sit there in silent. What the hell is going on? Are you guys talking? Derek has been inconsistent, and the defence struggles to contain without Lattimore in the line-up. Final game of the season, Who ‘dat, day, dot, doh!

Ryan has the Saints to march in at home, and upset Arthur and the birds.

Wade thinks that if the Falcons just run it double-headed, they can win the game, and get the upset.

Ryan-Saints 22 Falcons 17
Wade-Falcons 23 Saints 21

Bears (7-9) vs -3 Packers (8-8)  +45.5

Where did these Bears come from? With Montez Sweat heating up the defence, Justin Fields auditioning for his future, and the first pick in the 2024 Draft, Chicago is doing fun football.
Things are looking bright for next season, with plenty of options to look at, and a solid base to build on.
Just gotta beat those pesky Packers at Lambeau first.

Green Bay has been menopausal this season, showing hot flashes of brilliance, and then cold discomfort and nagging questions about the future. Is Jordan Love the man of the future? He sure seems like it some times, and then he makes incredibly dumb plays consistently.

Wade of course is taking his Bears to beat up another good win here. Chicago has been on a roll, and with a nemesis match-up against the Packers, the Bears will look to grab the last win, and ruin the Packers playoff hopes.

Ryan originally wanted to choose the Packers, until his senses regained, and he chose the Bears. He can’t trust Love, but who can really?

Ryan-Bears 23 Packers 21
Wade-Bears 28 Packers 21

Week 14 Picks

December 9, 2023 by nflinlondon

The boys are saddled with nasty colds, so it must be that time of year again for our Week 14 Picks podcast.

Only two teams on bye this week, as the playoff implications start to look far more interesting. Teams we thought in the AFC that would contend, are faltering, and the NFC is looking like it’s going to be a slugfest against the Niners for any hope of the Lombardi trophy.

If you want to take out your sniffles, and suck the phlegm for your system, have a listen this podcast with a little toddy for your ears.

NFLinLondon · Week 14 Picks-Ep 284

Week 14 Picks

A nice surprise for the AFC North, as the Steelers took a choke out from the Patriots on TNF to add another layer to that divisional contest.
What other kind of nifty surprises might we find in this weeks games?
Let’s have a little look shall we, as the boys both offer their predictions for a select slate of games.

Jaguars (8-4) vs -3 Browns (7-5)  +30.5

Jacksonville took a bite out of themselves in Week 13 with a performance that really knocked their chances of that number one seed potential. Although they are saying that Lawrence might have only suffered a high ankle sprain, what about the rest of the guys that got hurt. That has to hurt.
Joe Flacco! That’s right, old Joe has saddled up once again to fire some ints for Cleveland as they look to mend the suck that is currently affecting them.
With horrible weather, and a home crowd in their favour, can the much vaunted Browns D make them Jags pay here?
Ryan is going full Flacco, which is still a thing, as he thinks the Browns will out hustle the cats at home.
Wade also agrees that the Browns are the ones to take here, as the Jags will suffer to get anything going against that front line, and cold front of nasty weather.
Ryan-Browns 20 Jaguars 13
Wade-Browns 21 Jaguars 9

-3.5 Lions (9-3) vs Bears (4-8)  +43

It’s another rematch of the AFC North, as this time the Bears host in a contest that happened only a few weeks ago, with different circumstances.
The Lions were able to come back against a tough Chicago squad in the remaining two minutes of the game to get the fortunate win.
Will the Lions be so fortunate this time?
It’s not going to be a winning season in Chicago, but that was expected, as was the Fields conundrum. What he does in the next few weeks will determine where he plays next season.
If JF can light it up win a W against Detroit, he might just be the topic of a starter again in 2024.
Wade of course if taking his Bears for the upset win, with a wet, sloppy home slashing against Detroit.
Ryan agrees, and thinks that the Bears will be able to get vengeance in this week for the upset.
Ryan-Bears 24 Lions 21
Wade-Bears 18 Lions 16

Other games

Here are some of the other games that the guys have personally selected as ones that you might want to look at for some of you fun sunday parlays.
You can hear about them all in out Week 14 Picks podcast, but since you’re here, have a gander.

Ryan

-Panthers COVER against the Saints (-5)
-Ravens (-7)  PUSH with the Rams
-Jets UPSET vs the Texans (-3.5)
-Raiders UPSET the Vikings (-3)
-Bills UPSET the Chiefs (-1)

Wade

-Seahawks COVER against the 49ers (-10.5)
-Raiders COVER closely with the Vikings (-3)
-Eagles COVER in a close one with Dallas (-3.5)
-Dolphins (-13) BLOW-OUT the Titans
That’s it for the guys Week 14 Picks, make sure that you listen to the whole podcast so that you can soak it all up like the colds that are going around this season.
Stay safe, and enjoy Week 14!
