Woody and the Jets

January 15, 2021 by nflinlondon

America is currently going through a ‘change’ that we are all privy to witness, and one of those includes taking back some of their ambassadors, including our own, as we say goodbye to Woody and the Jets.

It was the first time for us Brits to have an Ambassador who actually owned an NFL team. While previous ambassadors have been supportive of the NFL pushing forward in Europe, it was NY Jets owner Woody who was bullish on more London games.

Given that Woody’s family owned the Jets, you can understand why he may not have wanted to spend any time on US soil in 2020. Thankfully by adding new head coach Robert Saleh, Woody can finally show his face with pride, as the Jets are on their way up! Or…on their way on a gradual slide to somewhere.

Woody’s time in London was not without his problems however, as being a minion of former President Trump brings with it a whole bunch of baggage. Let’s not forget the pressure that Trump put on Woody to move the British Open to his Scottish golf course. These type of unpresidential moves were  not uncommon for Trump, and always awkward for any of his mouth pieces.

Numerous reports also emerged of Embassy staff feeling uncomfortable around Ambassador Johnson, for making ‘inappropriate and insensitive’ comments. Perhaps Woody was just repeating things that Jets fans say every time they lose to a division opponent? It’s all about context.

So what will Johnson do know that he is no longer Ambassador to the UK?
He could always go back & get directly involved with the New York Jets? Although for many in the organisation it might just feel like an extended ‘take you kid to work day.’
He could fall back on his billions inherited from his Johnson & Johnson family empire. The company has been in the mix to make Covid vaccines, which is a far cry from the trouble they got in for selling baby powder that caused ass cancer.
Of course if Woody Johnson really wants to help, he can go back to Donald Trump and see if any fences need a mending.

Because if there is one thing that America has right now…it’s a lot of broken fences. And a wall that needs building.
Grab your toolbox Woody. America needs you.

Podcast-The New NFL

July 3, 2020 by nflinlondon

The NFL is coming back, but it certainly isn’t going to look like it did in the past.
Players getting temperature checks between plays, cardboard cutouts of fans with EA Sports fan noise pumped into an empty stadium.
Buffalo will fare even worse, as no fans will be thrown through tailgate tables, and a dildo-less field for Patriots games. Zero dildos.
Are you happy Covid-19?

In this safe distanced podcast, Wade and Ryan look at some of the top NFL news in this sports bereft landscape.
If tumble weeds were to somehow start rolling across our plains, these guys would bet on them

Among some of the other NFL news to discuss:

NFL Preseason

We all know how much we love preseason games! Players you have never heard of trying to make that crack at the final roster, while named players try to get their shit together after a fat summer.
The league has reduced the preseason to 2 weeks, but that could be zero weeks if the NFLPA has anything to say about it.

Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel has finally left the field. JM has publicly posted what all of us have known for years, Johnny Football is no more. Don’t shed a tear for him yet, he still has big plans.
Let’s not forget that he was BANNED from the CFL. How much of a douche can you be if even Canadian football has to ban you. We still don’t know what it was for exactly, but it has to be nasty.

Ocho is a Nice Guy

He’s got a big mouth, and even bigger heart. Chad Ocho Johnson has been giving away his own cash to people in need. He’s promised to give $245k away, and has so far delivered over $150k to fans across the states. While he may never play in the NFL again, this guy needs to be rewarded someone how being an awesome human. Give him a chance at game pundit.

Redskins

It’s that time again. What are we going to do about Washington? Loads of sponsors & investors have had enough of a BLM movement that has seen them seemingly ignore the plights of protestors.
Will Snyder and co. finally give in to the public and change their Skin? If there was any time to do it, now might be a good one.

Cam Newton

The old man has a job, which is something you wouldn’t think to hear in this climate.
Cam is with the Patriots and everyone seems to have lost their rag. He hasn’t played in a while and was plagued by injuries and weekly beatings by opposing defences, so it will be intriguing to see what he can bring to the table. A title seems too lofty.

Enjoy the podcast. Have a listen and a laugh, and reach out for anything.

Stay safe.

XFL is Dead

April 15, 2020 by nflinlondon

Ding Dong the McMahon dream is dead.
Corona has claimed another sports victim, and this time it was the XFL.

The XFL was thought to be a much bigger and improved version of the AAF and was actually starting to see some uptick in viewership and fanbase, but like any sport in this new world, the weight was too much.

There was quite a bit of pomp and ceremony as the league was announced, and the TV rating rivalled that of NBA games. Like any sport in the first year, you are defined by how the season is reflected upon, and this was just a brutal end to a ceremonial start.

Much like Vince McMahon himself, the game was loud, brash, and admired by middle class America.
With shots of fans using beer luges with their cups, or the viscera trash-talking on the field, and scantily clad cheerleaders drew fans in after an exciting NFL season.

As corona spread across the USA, it was too risky to keep showing the games, and eventually chapter 11 caught up with the the league. It is dead, done and dusted.
Not even The Undertaker is willing to be associated with it now.

Vince and his family were able to convince Florida legislators that the WWE was an ‘essential service’, you wonder if her tried that with Trump as well.

Farewell XFL, we barely knew you.
