London Called

October 22, 2024 by nflinlondon

Another fantastic set of UK NFL games has gone off splendidly, as we take a look back at our triad of matches in a London Called segment.

First off, how about a hand to the NFLUK for once again pulling off another incredible international series at Tottenham and Wembley for our October 2024 matches. It was another fantastic three weeks f games, fans, and excitement.

Let’s take a look back at the games that London was treated to, and all the action in the league associated with them!

Week 5

NY Jets 17 Minnesota Vikings 23

October 6th was out first London game, and what a treat it was, as Aaron Rodgers came to town with his squad of undeniable talent to take on an undefeated Minnesota Vikings squad.

Tottenham Stadium rocked out with over 61,000 fans to see Garrett Wilson catch for over 100 yards in a losing effort to the stout Vikings D. Andrew Van Ginkel electrified the crowd when he ran back a pick-6 in the first quarter in a game that had north London shaking.

In the end the Jets took another ‘L’, but not as big as coach Robert Salah, who was fired after the trip, and may have enjoyed an extra few days on hitting a Wetherspoons and soaking up his shame over 99 pence Boddington’s.

A great first game to kick off the series, and whet the appetite of London fans.

Week 6

Jacksonville Jaguars 16 Chicago Bears 35

It was a Bears beatdown in north London, as Caleb Williams rocked into Spurs stadium with a demonstrative hammering of the Jaguars in front of their ‘home’ nation.

Once again the rafters were filled to the hilt, as over 61,000 fans filled Tottenham stadium in a swarm of blue and orange, as it was definitely a Chicago home game.

Making this game even sweeter was the fact it was one of the few London games to hit the ‘over’, with the Jags porous D allowing Caleb and company to put this game out of reach before it began.

The weather might have been chilly, but the warmth of the NFC north faithful made sure that the last game at Tottenham for 2024 was one that Bears fans would never forget.

Week 7

New England Patriots 16 Jacksonville Jaguars 32

It was a true double-up for the final London game, as the Jags were able to secure a ‘W’ with a much needed victory over the Patriots on a cloudy day at Wembley.

Much was made of the UK being given two 1-5 teams for the last of the series, but this one might have been one of the most exciting one for many reasons.

Perhaps it was the radiant smile of Drake Maye who brought the sun out in the second half, although he was no match for a fired up Trevor Lawrence who was looking to silence the salary-haters who have been chirping on his socials.

Tank Bigsby was the Jags workhorse on the ground, pounding into the Pats, and awakening a crowd of almost 90,000 NFL faithful in northwest London.

Both teams flew out immediately after the game, and as far as we know, no one has lost their job yet.

London 2025

It’s hard to believe that the 2024 season is already halfway done, as we round our way to Halloween and Christmas, knowing that the NFL is well and truly our real special holiday.

So who will be coming to London in 2025, and how many games will we get?
Wish we could answer those questions for you, you’ll have to wait until March 2025 to actually know who that might be.

At the end of the day, the fact that we were able to watch 6 awesome teams play a game in our own backyard is beyond special.

Thanks again to the NFL, the teams, the players, the fans and everyone who made these NFL in London games well and truly magical.

Of course, we will still have loads more NFL events in London to promote.

Week 5 Picks

October 7, 2023 by nflinlondon

Holy schmoly, another NFL London game with Jags and Bills plus our Week 5 Picks podcast?
Did Christmas come early?

With the NFL giving us another great game between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars, the guys look at all the other games that are popping this weekend, with a full slate of top notch games following the 2:30 game.

To listen to the podcast, just have a click here, and let all your NFL picks get suitably questioned by the half-assed analysis of Ryan and Wade.

NFLinLondon · Week 5 Picks-268

London Game Notes

Hope everyone heading to the game has a great time, and the weather looks so good, global warming is okay for a weekend such as this.

There is no transit strike on for Sunday (hooray), so folks should have an easy-peasy journey to the game.

Arsenal is playing Manchester City at 4:30pm on Sunday, which means that north London is going to be a pickle to get around post game.
The match should finish after 6pm, so expect a double flush of fans looking to hit the rails post game.

Week 5 Picks

You’ll get most of the fun bag shenanigans on the podcast, but for the folks looking for a few hot tips as the turtle head rises from the steam-shute, we got you covered.

Here are a few of the games that the guys think might be some traction action.

-2 Titans (2-2) vs Colts (202) +43

This is a hot steaming pile of nothing game, that even the flies don’t want to be a part of, but one of these teams has to come to London next weekend.

The Titans have no O-line and the D secondary is giving up big yards, so how are they going to stop the Colts with a running QB?

The Colts too have a slew of injuries that beset both sides of the ball, but Jonathan Taylor is back? Is that good?

Both guys think that this is a stinker, but has some fantasy gold in the nuggets of dung.

Ryan likes the Titans to rise above the Indianapolis team at home, and Derek Henry a win.

Wade smells the rot on the glove, but likes the tandem of Richardson and Pittman to put up the points.

Ryan-Titans 24 Colts 21
Wade-Colts 20 Titans 18

Texans (2-2) vs -2 Falcons (2-2) +41.5

CJ Stroud and the Texans have been causing enough fire to justify a smokehouse BBQ session, as the D has also responded by keeping games tight with tough opponents.
Nothing to lose, but something to prove.

Atlanta is coming home after a sad sack loss to the Jags in London that made many of the players question why they even got a stupid passport in the first place
The Falcons and the Ridder scheme isn’t working, so how do they get off the run?

Ryan likes the Texans to win here, as his habit of betting on the Falcons in the past brought him nothing but trouble.

Wade is taking the Falcons at home only because the Texans aren’t very good against an inside run unit that can gash them for yards.

Ryan-Texans 21 Falcons 17
Wade-Falcons 23 Texans 19

That’s it for our Week 5 Picks podcast, make sure that you listen to the whole thing on all of the good audio channels aside from ours.

Hope everyone enjoys your Week 5 matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Stadium, and please do make sure to send us photos of all the fun you’re having.

Week 4 Crit

October 5, 2023 by nflinlondon

We’ve got more NFL action in London, but first, we offer up our Week 4 Crit podcast, where the guys look back on all the Week 4 games.

The link to the podcast is at the bottom of this thread, because we have some exciting local news first.

Bills & Jaguars in London

With the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars also in town, we would be remiss if we didn’t offer you up some fun things to do this week.

The weather looks like we well and truly fucked planetary warm, which is good for football, as fans will bask in new normal temperatures in north London.

Getting to the stadium will be way easier, thanks to the tube lines calling off their strike, and trains should be moving better than last week.

The Rugby World Cup will be dominating the screens this week, so if you’re looking to catch some college football, it might be best catching a stream at home, or using a UK betting app so that you can catch the feed on your device (Bet 365).

If you’re looking to up your Sunday Funday action, why not take a cruise with the fun folks at Tailgreeter, who are hosting a funtastic Sunday morning of fun with their Thames River Cruise.

Boarding and offloading at Festival Pier on the banks of the mighty Thames, guests will be treated to a four hour cruise that would make Gilligan and the gang jealous.

Not only do fans get to sight see across London by river for 4 hours, there will be games, free swag, a bbq buffet, 3 free drinks, and an EXTRA free drink when you use promo code NFLLONDON.

Best of all, the Tailgreeter gang is going to drop you off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in time for gametime between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Tailgreeter Thames River Cruise goes from 9am to 1pm, giving you enough sea legs of sauce to get you to your seats in time for the 2:30pm kickoff.
There are no loos on the bus, so please plan your bladder’s accordingly.

If you want to get tickets for this Thames River Cruise of NFL adventure, just click on the link here to get tickets.
Don’t forget promo code NFLLONDON to snag yourself a beverage on us. You deserve it.

Among some other things that you might want to consider this weekend is comedy! London has loads of fantastic comedy clubs and acts that you might want to check out.

Post covid, many comedy clubs across the UK have been struggling, as have the comics. This has brought on a huge new boom of great comedy however, so make sure that you check out some gigs if you want to take a break from some of the NFL hullabaloo.

Among some of the shows we would recommend:

  • UK funnyman Peter Kay is playing the O2 Saturday & is a great diplomat of British comedy
  • Ricky Gervais is playing Friday at Wembley if you like that kind of comedy
  • US Latino superstar Gabriel ‘Fluffy’ Iglesias plays the O2 on Friday
  • The hilarious Paul Chowdhry performs his solo show at the Leicester Square Theatre all weekend
  • The Comedy Store packs big hilarity with Ian Stone; Marcel Lucont; & more all weekend
  • Micky Flanagan performs at the Lyric Theatre-with Harry Styles & James Cordon in this week

Week 4 Crit

What a week it was to show the separation in tiers between good teams, great teams, and just terrible teams. (looking at you Bears!)

Ryan and Wade meander through the games and look at what and who were the difference makers.

Ryan actually blushes on the podcast when talking about the Bills beatdown of the Dolphins on Sunday, so make sure that you at least catch that moment.

NFLinLondon · Week 4 Crit-Ep 267

TNF- Bears (0-4) vs -6 WASH (2-2) +45

The guys also preview the slovenly TNF matchup between the winless Bears, and the WASH team that almost took out the Eagles.

It’s a big spread here, but the guys both like the WASH team to win, but the Bears cover.

Listen to the whole thing, and rub it all over you like you’re about to hop in the smoker.

Tottenham Game Spots

October 3, 2023 by nflinlondon

We’ve got another 2 London NFL games coming up, so we thought we would offer you up some Tottenham Game Spots for before and after the game.

Many London stadium going folk know that the newbie Tottenham Stadium is a little rough around the edges neighbourhood-wise, but like the once-ominous Wembley Stadium, the hood is on the rise.

Still, it’s widely accepted that Wembley overs a better experience OUTSIDE the stadium, while Tottenham Hotspur Stadium offers a better time INSIDE the gates.
Tottenham has spent a lot of money and thought on the fan drinking and eating options, so if you’ve never been inside before, you should be impressed.

A few early game day info:

  • Rail and tube strikes will persist throughout the week-Wednesday and Friday suck
  • Weather forecast is 25c (80f) and cloudy-perfect October conditions
  • Rugby World Cup Weekend-England, Ireland Scotland play Saturday-few games Sunday
  • Tottenham Stadium is congested to leave-consider a few local drinks before heading out

Tottenham Bars

Many of the bars around Tottenham are ‘blue and white’ faithful, meaning they are traditional Spurs drinking establishments.
This won’t matter to NFL fans unless you steam in covered in full Arsenal gear and acting like a Gooner.

BeaverTown-Corner Pin

If you’re looking to quaff fancy beers with whiffs of bergamot, BeaverTown is the £7 pint for you.

Located right across from the stadium, this ‘craft’ (Heineken) brew pub is a convenient place to try out some of Beavertown’s more unique samplings.

It’s easy to find, and has a lovely little garden, but gets as heaving as Tik Tok eating contest after an hour.
Plan to get there early.

https://beavertownbrewery.co.uk/pages/corner-pin

The BeeHive

This place is also buzzing with activity on game day, thanks to a spacious beer garden and independent pub feel.

Tucked away, yet still close to the stadium. The Beehive is a traditional sports pub, which means fans can scoot there after the game to get their fix of NFL and Redzone.

It always helps to book ahead if you’re going to bring a big group there.

https://beehiven17.com/

Antwerp Arms

A recently renovated community pub, The Antwerp Arms is bustling on gameday, as they have not only a solid menu, but sports on TV.

Those NFL fans looking for a Real Ale pub will be pleasantly pleased with the selection on offer tap wise, and the large patio is a great place to unwind on what looks to be a pretty sweet day.

Booking ahead is wise as this place gets very busy.

https://www.antwerparms.co.uk/

Elbow Room

Across the street from the Antwerp Arms is the Craft Union pub Elbow Room.

The pub has a great selection of beers, as well as TV to catch the sport on. It isn’t a pub that has food, but many of these places will allow you to bring in something from the kebab shop, provided you are respectful.

Elbow Room is open until 11pm, which gives you plenty of time to get sauced before you ride the rails home.

https://www.craftunionpubs.com/elbow-room-tottenham

Ferry Boat Inn

Further afield than the previous pubs but worth the view is the Ferry Boat Inn located on Lockwood Reservoir in Tottenham.

With a massive patio overlooking some water, the Ferry Boat Inn doesn’t feel like you’re in London at all.
50 tables plus, a jovial atmosphere, while curious mutts approach you at this dog friendly pub.

While the Ferry Boat Inn doesn’t have TVs to whet your NFL whistle, it is a great place to get away and chill before or after the mayhem of the stadium.

https://www.pubanddining.co.uk/ferry-boat-tottenham

Hackney Brewery

Across the water, but still a nice stroll away is the massive Hackney Brewery Taproom.

Filled with glorious taps of beer, plenty of outdoor seating, and even it’s own hotdog stand, the Hackney Brewery is an independent spot that the locals love.

If you have a big group, this is an amazing place to meet before the game to sneak in a few lovely, and affordable pints.

Sadly this place won’t be showing any of the NFL games, but it’s open until 11, and fans can soak up the afternoon sun on the patio while easily making their way to Northumberland Park station which is less than 10 minutes away.

Heck, you could even rent some of those electric bikes near the station and make it an even easier journey.

https://www.hackneybrewery.com/

Other Areas

The good thing about Tottenham, is that it is close to loads of other cool areas that you might want to try as party places before or after the game.
Here are some other local Tottenham Game Spots.

Wood Green

It’s not as stabby as it once was, which is a good thing for Wood Green. It’s also walkable to the stadium, giving a nice 20-30 minute journey through some side streets that also have their own pubs.

Wood Green is easily accessible via transit, and has a McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and some of the finest Turkish food your drunken belly could easily slop up.

Finsbury Park

Down the road from the stadium is the even more thriving area of Finsbury Park, which has seen an influx of students to make the place cool again.

There are plenty of late night haunts to pull you in, from sports bars, to pubs and even Rowan’s bowling lanes which are an iconic part of the area, and also open late.

Highbury and Islington

Hip with the kids, but getting sketchier since covid is the main high street action of H&I.

If you’re looking to amble and find plenty of later Sunday options, this is a potential destination, as it has places like the American rock bar Slim Jim’s open until the wee hours.

Old Street

Near the even hipper area of Shoreditch is the roundabout Old Street, which has some nifty little joints to check out.

RoadTrip is open very late on a Sunday, and even shows plenty of NFL games on their indoor and outdoor TVs. Sports Bar & Grill Old Street is also quite big, and suitable for those who want NFL galore.

Hope that this helps you on your trip to Tottenham Stadium for the next two games.

Don’t forget, you can also get a FREE beer by signing up to the series of Thames Cruises hosted by Tailgreeter.
Here is the next one.

Week 4 Picks

September 30, 2023 by nflinlondon

Welcome to London NFL fans, as we discuss the Falcons Jaguars game in our Week 4 Picks podcast.

Wade and Ryan are excited to see the first NFL game of the European leg, and as the Ryder Cup has show us so far that Europe has its own winning ways.

A train and tube strike is threatening to chunk away a good selection of fans for this game sadly, so hopefully many of these late tickets will get scooped up.
All in all, it looks to be another consistent NFL London game, with low scoring and wide jersey dispersion.
The amazing UK fans more than make up for it all, and it will truly be a fun experience.

If you want to listen to the guys go off on their podcast, all you have to do is click this link here.

NFLinLondon · Week 4 Picks-266
Among some of the games the guys look at in this episode includes:

Falcons (2-1) vs -3 Jaguars (1-2)  +43

It’s the first of the 2023 London NFL games as the Atlanta Falcons visit the home town Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley stadium.
Despite the fact that London has no signs that the NFL is in town, apparently this game is still going ahead.
Atlanta has looked limp in their run only offence, with Desmond Ridder either not living up to his potential, or not having as much as everyone thought.
Jacksonville has a had a struggling start to the season, no thanks to their offensive line which has seen Trevor Lawrence harassed more than he’s ever been.
Ryan thinks that this game will be another London stinker, with low points and even lower intensity.
Wade is also calling for a terribly low scoring game, as teams historically take time to adjust to being in the GMT.
Ryan-Jaguars 24 Falcons 17
Wade-Jaguars 18 Falcons 14

Dolphins (3-0) vs -2.5 Bills (2-1)  +53.5

Miami shocked the shakes out of the league last week by pounding the poor Broncos with 70 points, as they continue to load up on points. But they still haven’t face a really tough D up to this point.
Buffalo are favoured by 2.5 points against Miami? Many fans think this is an insult, given the Bills struggling in their first 2 games.
Ryan is big on his Bills, and likes the boys in Western New York to choke out the Dolphins with their fast front D.
Wade agrees with Ryan, and thinks that Miami will get a touch welcome from the Bills, who will finally give Tua that threat to his MMA training.
Ryan-Bills 31 Dolphins 27
Wade-Bills 30 Dolphins 26

Rams (1-2) vs -1 Colts (2-1)  +46.5

Los Angeles Rams took a tough loss to the Bengals in week 3, losing a few more defensive players in the process. Matt Stafford is playing with renewed confidence, thanks to some speedy new receivers who have stepped up.
The Colts are 2-1 with our Jonathan Taylor, and Matt Ryan. The last name isn’t as surprising, but the play of Anthony Richardson is. Back from injury, Richardson could thrive in fantasy points against an LA  team playing with only 4 days rest.
Ryan likes the Rams to take out the Colts here, with Matt Stafford finding some holes in this Indianapolis home team.
Wade likes Richardson to use his legs and find Pittman for a few scores, as he likes the Colts to dominate the poor, tired Rams.
Ryan-Rams 21 Colts 20
Wade-Colts 23 Rams 18
Among some of the other top picks that the guys look at in these Week 4 Picks include:

Ryan

  • Tampa Bay covers against the Saints
  • Bengals beat the Titans who cover
  • Seahawks beat the Giants

Wade

  • Texans upset the Steelers
  • Bears beat the Broncos
  • Patriots cover close against the Cowboys

That’s it for our Week 4 Picks podcast, make sure that you listen to the whole thing and share it with your friends.

To everyone attending the London game at Wembley stadium this Sunday, have fun! It looks like it will be a sunny day despite the slowdown in traffic.
