London BearDown and More!

October 8, 2024 by nflinlondon

As Week 6 of the NFL season approaches, the Chicago Bears are taking centre stage with their upcoming October 13th international game in London. This marquee matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is more than just another game—it’s part of a broader global push for the NFL and the city of Chicago. Alongside this international excitement, major storylines continue to unfold across the league, from quarterback controversies to injuries.

So let’s dive into the most important news heading into Week 6, starting with the Bears’ big London arrival.

Beardown Tottenham

The Chicago Bears have landed in London already, bringing a wave of excitement ahead of their highly anticipated matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 13. The Bears are no strangers to international play, but this trip marks a special opportunity for both the team and the city of Chicago to make a statement on the global stage.

Mayor Brandon Johnson is also in town, traveling with World Business Chicago, as part of a broader mission to position Chicago as a global hub for business and innovation. Johnson’s visit includes high-level meetings and key announcements, and a few fun trips to the pub (perhaps?).

While Chicago’s business community aims to strengthen ties with London, the Bears have their own agenda—bringing the energy of Soldier Field across the Atlantic. They’ve organised a series of fan events at the Greenwood Sports Pub, where London-based Bears fans can meet former players, grab autographs, and enjoy a slice of Chicago football culture.

As mentioned in previous articles, the Greenwood isn’t the best sports bar for North American authenticity, as the McDonald’s in Victoria station was serving up better food than any of the events we ran there.

Bring lots of money, as it is one of the priciest sports pubs in the city, even though it isn’t close to anything,

These events, which run from October 9-13, include appearances from beloved Bears alumni like Charles “Peanut” Tillman and Anthony “Spice” Adams, alongside giveaways, trivia, and more.

For those attending the game, or simply fans looking to immerse themselves in the Chicago football atmosphere, the Bears’ week-long takeover in London culminates with a viewing party at the Greenwood on October 13. Even if fans can’t make it to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they’ll be able to watch the game in true Bears fashion at the pub, decked out in team colors with face painters on-site to get everyone game-ready. FYI the pub closes at 11 on a Sunday, and will happily kick out fans looking to watch the 9pm games.

The Bears have had a mixed history in London, winning against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Wembley in 2011 but falling to the Oakland Raiders in 2019. As they prepare to face the Jaguars in what promises to be a thrilling contest, the excitement in London is palpable. With events designed to engage local fans and promote Chicago on an international stage, this trip is a major moment for both the team and the city. All eyes will be on the Bears as they aim to capture a win and leave their mark on the international stage.

Russell Wilson’s Potential Return in Pittsburgh

In other news, the Pittsburgh Steelers face a looming decision regarding their quarterback situation. After back-to-back losses, and with Justin Fields’ struggles against the Cowboys, the door may be open for Russell Wilson’s return to the starting lineup. Head coach Mike Tomlin will address the situation during his weekly press conference, but speculation is growing that Wilson could get the nod as early as Week 6 against the Raiders.

Wilson, who has been recovering from an injury, is reportedly getting healthier and could offer the offensive spark the Steelers desperately need. Fields has shown flashes of brilliance, but the offence has stalled in recent weeks, and with prime-time games against the New York Jets and Giants on the horizon, the timing could be perfect for a change. Wilson’s experience and ability to read defences might be just what the Steelers need to get back on track.

Joe Flacco Continues to Impress in Indy

Meanwhile, in Indianapolis, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is turning heads with his standout performances. The 39-year-old QB threw for 354 yards and three touchdowns in the Colts’ Week 5 game, stepping in seamlessly for the injured Anthony Richardson. Despite his age, Flacco has defied expectations, making five consecutive starts with over 300 yards and multiple TDs.

The Colts are in the thick of the playoff race, and Flacco’s resurgence is providing them with stability at the quarterback position. If he continues this level of play, Indianapolis could make a serious postseason push, thanks in no small part to the veteran’s leadership and sharp passing game.

Deshaun Rubs Himself Out

Deshaun Watson’s rough start to the 2024 season hit a new low in Week 5, as the Cleveland Browns were dominated 34-13 by the Washington Commanders. Watson’s performance was underwhelming once again, and he was outclassed by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Watson has yet to throw for more than 200 yards in a game this season, and he’s been sacked at least six times in three separate contests.

For a quarterback commanding a $230 million contract, these numbers are troubling. Watson’s inability to elevate the Browns’ offense is one of the most pressing issues for the team heading into Week 6. If he doesn’t turn things around soon, the Browns could be looking at another disappointing season.

Patriots Eye No. 1 Draft Pick Amid Freefall

It’s been a rough season for the New England Patriots, who have now dropped four straight games following their surprise Week 1 win. The losses have piled up, and the team’s poor performance has them on track for a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Head coach Jared Mayo will need to work some magic to salvage the season, but at this point, it’s looking like a rebuild might be the Patriots’ best option moving forward.

The Patriots’ offensive struggles have been particularly alarming, as they’ve failed to establish any consistent rhythm, and every QB is getting constant pressure up front. If their slide continues, don’t be surprised if the team starts making moves to position themselves for a high draft pick next year.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Rashee Rice Out for Season

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of their rising stars, as wide receiver Rashee Rice is set to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. Rice suffered the injury in Week 4 when quarterback Patrick Mahomes accidentally collided with him while trying to recover an interception. The Chiefs have confirmed that Rice will undergo surgery to repair his LCL, and there’s optimism that his ACL remains undamaged.

Rice’s absence will be a blow to the Chiefs’ and Mahomes, as he was becoming an integral part of Mahomes’ passing attack. However, with Mahomes at the helm, the Chiefs are well-positioned to weather the storm, though they’ll need other receivers to step up as the season progresses. Looking at you Davante!

Streaming Services See NFL Boost

Finally, a new study from Ampere Analysis highlights the incredible power the NFL has over streaming services. During the NFL season, platforms like YouTube TV and Fubo see a massive 77% increase in sign-ups, driven by the league’s unparalleled popularity. The Super Bowl remains the biggest subscription driver, with over 410,000 sign-ups recorded in a single day during last year’s championship.

As more games move to streaming exclusives, the relationship between the NFL and these services will continue to grow. It’s clear that the NFL remains a major force not just in sports but in the broader entertainment landscape, as fans flock to streaming platforms to catch the action every week.

With the Chicago Bears making headlines in London and plenty of drama across the league, Week 6 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting of the 2024 NFL season. Watch this space for more Bears and Jags news ahead of Sunday.

December Flakes

December 2, 2022 by nflinlondon

As we roll round into the winter months of a budget tightened winter, we offer you something special as we look at some of our December Flakes of the NFL season.

Sure, the white stuff might be falling from the skies as winter approaches, but it’s the flake outs on the NFL season thus far that make us look at ‘what’s actually nicer or sadder to see?’

Let’s take look at some of the winter blusters, blunders and blow-outs that take us to journey thus far in December Flakes.

Aaron Rodgers

A-A-Ron has certainly slumped this season since his massive payday. It’s like his massive chunk didn’t leave enough cheese for the rest of the rats?

His thumb, his ribs, his teammates, his teammates-nothing is good enough when there is not enough budget.

Whatever the mumbo jumbo vision he saw in his pre season dance, it’s not going the way it should, and you wonder what he might do to slide out the season, and glide to somewhere less Green in 2023.

Russell Wilson

No one came to your party, because you sucked the sweet out of the cake 5 years ago. Even the fructose of a celebrity marriage hasn’t translated to the turf, as Wilson balls out like a stag for a 80 year old.

It’s not totally his fault, but it’s a lot of his fault as the D has been riding the team so hard, they should be called the ‘Doncos’.

Fans are looking at Russ like mis-spent, and unused PPU-like someone made a big COVID mistake.

The Rams

When a dog goes to die, it usually finds a nice quiet place that’s soft and out of the way.
The LA Rams look to be that dog now.

From the ‘Good Boys’ days of being the Super Bowl Champs only 10 months ago, the Rams look like they have been shot, de-horned, and sliced down by a private renegade hunting group.

Stafford is stuffed, Kupp is Cooped and the D is just plain old pooped.

What a downfall! And the budget for the future doesn’t look sunny.

Cleveland Browns

Deshaun Watson is back and it’s a bad kettle of bat crazy on Cleveland.

After vigorously wanting to leave Texas, Watson was ‘suddenly’ smacked with dozens of massage allegations.
Nothing like the smacking that NFL players get caught doing continually, Deshaun never was charged with assault.

Whatever the issue, Deshaun has endured several years of this and finally gets to shine to for the Cleveland Browns.
Shine is a funny word, as the saying goes ‘you can’t polish a turd’, and the Browns certainly have shaded themselves to ‘fecal brown’.

It will take a while for the Browns to shake off their smell, but like all turds, they eventually give birth to something new.

Houston Texans

How long does this have to go on Houston?
Are you building a fanbase or is this a hostage situation?
Is this Houston, or Waco?

The Texans have had years to rebuild and have seem to have bit the pot more times than a one-legged toddler.
You don’t need a dentist to check your Tunsil’s to see that the rot is not in the tooth, but in the roots.

You let Davis Mills a low-ranked rookie run the squad, then had the temerity to publicly dump him without giving him anything, anyone, and pissing off the only Cooks he had in the kitchen.

If Bezos buys an NFL team, then Elon Musk should buy the Texans. He already has a ‘home’ in Austin, so why not just grab something else while the world starves?

There’s too many other flakes falling to mention to not sound like the old guy at the end of the bar telling how many feet of snow he got in his day. ..but…some drifts…

Kyler Murray needs to grow up or get taller.
Do you have a plan Lamar?
If the Bears break Fields…trouble
Mariota is a dud machine
The Jets still need a new QG

TNF Cardinals vs Seahawks

November 19, 2020 by nflinlondon

Finally a great Thursday night NFL game as the Cardinals face the Seahawks, while most of the UK will be blanket dozed through the drizzle during this one. Those brave enough to stay up for this game will be treated to an epic match-up between two heavy hitting teams.
Will Seattle be able to hoist out a much needed victory against the fast moving Arizona squad?

Cardinals (6-3) vs Seahawks (6-3)
Seahawks -3  +58

Kyler Murray is lighting up the league with his rapid fire arm, and quick moves on the field-this kid is really something to watch. Arizona has taken some tough beatings in their 3 losses, but their 6 wins point to a team that can wreck havoc on the NFC, and challenge anyone in a fight. That last minute meteoric pass to Hopkins to crush the Bills is still something I watch in slow mo for fun, and to tease Ryan.
Something is wrong with Russel Wilson. He may not be physically ill, but mentally something just doesn’t look right. He just doesn’t seem to have his head in the game, and looks listless with such great talent at his disposal. Their defence is horrendous, and other teams have essentially defecated yards while they watch helplessly.
The Cardinals have to feel buzzy after that buzzer beater in Buffalo, riding high knowing that they can beat anyone. The Seahawks are wondering what to do, where it’s all going wrong, and what they need to do to right the ship. It’s rudderless and careening towards the playoff rocks at this point, and Pete Carroll needs to do something.
I like Arizona to keep thumping here. Kyler Murray is known for his revenge tactics, and after the beating that Seattle laid on Arizona earlier this season, KM will be looking to ruin the homecoming party for the Hawks.
Seattle won’t be able to correct their D woes in this contest, it’s going to take time, and sadly they just don’t have that.
I like Arizona to win this one and move on to a 7-3 record.
Seattle will take another L on the chin and hopefully no more injuries.

Passing Leaders-Week 4

September 30, 2020 by nflinlondon

Dak Prescott might not be able to get all the W’s, but he certainly is racking up the yards heading into week 4. The cowboys have face some tough opposition, but Dak has been able to keep games close by torching weak midfields with his relentless attacks. He’s facing a tough Browns D this week, so we’ll see if he can hold onto number 1.

Josh Allen is more like ‘Josh Alien’ with his out of this world passing and runs. He needed to pull it all together last week to stop the Rams from ruining his parade. Josh will face the Raiders this week, which has enough holes for Allen to exploit.

Matt Ryan is on fire, too bad it’s like one of those bag of dog poo fires that gets all over you. Matty Ice has been connecting downfield, but not enough to give them the scores. He faces the Packers this week who are tough to pass against. Matty might drop this week.

Russell Wilson is the man, and he could have jumped higher up the rankings had DK Metcalf not been a silly-willy-nilly and let that ball get knocked out in the end zone. He will look to feast on a Miami D in week 4.

Patrick Mahomes might be only the 4th rated NFL player by his peers, but heading into week 4 he’s #5 in passing yards. He’s playing Bill Belichick and the Patriots this week, so let’s see if he can carve those stats even higher.

Who will have the best passing yards this week? Make sure you play along in our fantasy contests to win big.

Ryans Picks

January 11, 2020 by nflinlondon

Our man Ryan Cull is still smarting from his Bills being eliminated last weekend.
Will the sting of neglect still carry forward with him this weekend?
Time will tell, but more importantly his picks will.

We have included Ryans picks against the spread so that you can make your own picks based on Ryan’s expert NFL knowledge.
Will you take his advice?

Vikings vs -7 49ers

Ryan isn’t totally sold that the 49ers can put up the big boy points versus the Vikings. Minnesota has dusted off the ice and seems to be playing competitive football.
Ryan thinks that the 49ers will win, but that they won’t cover the full spread.
49ers 24 Vikings 21

Titans vs -9.5 Ravens

The Titans continue to impress as they knock off some of the top teams in the league, but can they knock off the top team? Ryan says ‘no’, but he does believe that this game will be closer than most think. He also picks Derek Henry to have a stellar game in the face of the D.
Ravens 30 Titans 23

Texans vs -9.5 Chiefs

The Texans are a team that Ryan hates right now. After dusting his Bills in the second half last week, he is looking for redemption in the form of a Chiefs beating. He thinks this will happen, with Kansas City easily covering the spread.
Chiefs 30 Texans 17

Seahawks vs -4 Packers

Ryan isn’t totally sold on the Packers either. Who have they beaten really, and have they done it impressively, or in need. The Seahawks are growing in confidence, but will too many injuries stop this party before it starts? Ryan wanted to take the Seahawks but just couldn’t do it. He does like them to cover though.
Packers 27 Seahawks 24

Make sure you check out our BetRegal offer to get going on you betting this weekend.

We also have some DraftKings contests on, and grab some gear from Fanatics! You might need some hats and jerseys for the playoffs.

See you this weekend at Long Acre in Covent Garden.
