London 2020 Games Update

March 9, 2020 by nflinlondon

Patriots vs Dolphins at Tottenham? 2012 was the last time they came. It’s possible.

We have changed our predictions for the 2020 London games based on some recent info and projections for the season after CBA.
The Dolphins are coming, but who will they host. There’s a 1/8 chance, but the factors that mitigate who comes lead us to believe…it will be the Patriots!

Who will be playing in London in the four international matches of 2020?
We know a few teams thus far, but who will actually make it across the pond to entertain us hungry fans in this new decade?
Short answer-we don’t know yet.
There is much speculation as to who will come, and when you add in rumours, schedule confirmations, attendance and mitigating factors like who HAS to play here, we can come up with some pretty close projections.
There has been a pattern to when, who, and how teams are allocated to our fair city, so we have come up with our predictions of the London 2020 NFL International series.
NFL in London fan guesses.
Corona virus is also going to have a massive impact on the game going into 2020, especially if the NFLPA is realistically protective of their clan.

Please know that this not official (don’t sue us NFL), we are just having some fun, backed by some factish ideas. Feel free to comment of make your own conjectures.

Dates

The NFL is scheduled for four London matches in 2020. Once again, these would be divided equally between Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley Stadium.
In the past the London dates have been held earlier in the season, between weeks 4-9, so as not to affect the US based schedule, travel, weather, holidays and fall attendance.
UK dates are also done in consideration of English Football and Champions League commitments for various clubs, who might need the stadiums as the season and Leagues move on in the autumn.
Previous London hosting have broken up the 4 weeks, which means a double/ double weekend within  September, October and November.
It’s tough to book out the city of London with so much going on, as well as hosting parties for a month straight.
Previous NFL UK events involved blocking Trafalgar Square, closing Regent street were great, but the security landscape has changed in scope and costs.
They will probably look to book Regent street again in late September, as it is also a good way to sell Gamepass.

Daylight Savings
The NFL has also taken advantage of the daylights savings time difference between the UK and US, which occurs on Oct 25th & Nov 1st this year.
This means only a 4 hour difference which is more manageable for TV and travel & quite negligible for the players once they are in the UK.
2020 Schedule
NFL games will most likely start on Sunday September 13th, as the 10th is listed as the first Thursday, even though that would mean week 17 hits 2021.
It would mean that we would be looking at weeks 3-9, with London getting weeks 3, 4, 7 & 8.
Our prediction is Sun September 27th, October 4th, 25th, and November 2nd for London to host games at Tottenham & Wembley respectively.

Denver Broncos vs Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons name has been confirmed by Arthur ‘Blankity’ Blank as being a London player in 2020. He acknowledged in an interview that they were playing the Broncos, which is confirmed by various other sources in Denver.
With this AFC/ NFC matchup in the books, there will mostly be divisional matchups after this, as to not get owners knickers in knots.
Given that this one is the first confirmed, it will most likely be the first as they have had to alert their season ticket owners that London is in the works, so book now.
The Broncos haven’t been here since 2010, and the Falcons since 2014, so it makes sense since both of their home attendance records have been slow.
We predict that this will be the first game in week 3 at Tottenham.

New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins

Miami is in for a London home game as of Feb 2020.
That settles the debate on the last home team, so it’s only a matter of looking at their home schedule projection & who hasn’t been here recently.
Miami hosts their division rivals as well as the Chargers, Chiefs, Rams, Seahawks & Bengals.
All of these teams have been here recently, save the Chiefs.
There is no way the SuperBowl champs are risking a repeat on an Atlantic journey.
New England Patriots haven’t been here since 2012 the Bills in 2015. The Bills have stadium issues, but the Pats might look to spin the story to the continent.
It’s their turn.
Don’t forget, it’s also about who has a stadium problem, attendance problem, or fan problem. And if Tom Brady leaves, they have a problem.
What if one of the reasons for his hold out is having to go to London?
While the players aren’t keen on it, it’s amazing for the game-but try selling that during the CBA when owners want you to work another week of body damage for the same pay.
Give ’em weed, give ’em London.
The Patriots would make the most sense if the Brady era ends, Bostonians would be shell shocked & less likely to watch their team lose to a second rate QB.
It will be an AFC East rival, but who?

We predict Patriots vs Dolphins week 4 at Tottenham.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville has officially confirmed that they will play back to back London ‘home’ games to make ticket money. They were a hot sale a year ago, but somehow fell down the stinkhole once again.
Fans will be looking for some Minshew Mania or any kind of miracle to turn this team around again.
Sadly, the best hype the team had last year was on the Netflix series ‘The Good Place’.
The Jags are going to play at Wembley. They always have, and despite the bidding to buy it being stalled/ killed/ murmured, he has a tie to the place and it is his home stand.
Jacksonville has usually played the last of the London games, and will probably do the same this year.
Hopefully by the end of October they will have chalked up some wins.
We know that they have to play the Steelers and the Bears at home, which leaves 6 home games potentially for London.
Those 6 include: Texans, Colts, Titans, Browns, Dolphins & Lions.
The Texans & Titans were recently here, so that rules them out.
Miami has been announced as an international team in either London or Mexico, but it would seem logical Miami would go to Mexico given the massive Latino fanbase.
Cleveland was also here a few years ago, and it might be a tough sell to the players given the ego and salary stipulations.
That leaves us with the Colts and the Lions, both of whom are also struggling.
The Lions have been rumoured in local press, which smells like a Michigan scoop.
Indy is still reeling from losing Andrew Luck, so they might need a year or two to get the star power buzzing again.
Detroit has November issues with Thanksgiving, so we see them as the last of the games to give them a break before the schedule gets nutty at home.
The Colts will most likely pile in the week before, as they lack the star power to challenge playing a London game, & their young squad might be keen to get their Europe on.
We predict Colts vs Jags week 7, and the Lions vs Jags week 8 at Wembley.

2019 SuperBowl

The 2019-2020 is officially over, and what a wonderful way to end the season.
SuperBowl 54 will go down as one of the best ever, with a heroic comeback by QB Patrick Mahomes, whose poise and calm outshone his years in an epic battle.

A fantastic job by the Kansas City Chiefs, and their whole organisation for owning the AFC and using the ‘comeback’ to their advantage.
Every time you saw them down, it was like watching Hulk Hogan of the 80s’ simmering as he takes the blows, only to explode with a phenomenal leg-drop of the opposition.

The San Francisco 49ers displayed an awesome presence throughout the whole season. From being a losing team the year before, they gouged their way through offences and used their legs to power through hapless D’s.
They almost had it. It was close. You could smell it. Amazing.

Congrats to both teams, the fans, and of course the NFL for giving us this great game of entertainment every Sunday.

We will be looking to do big things in London in 2020, please get in touch.

Week 13 Picks

December 1, 2019 by nflinlondon

Wade-W13-picks

It’s Week 13, and things are heating up post Thanksgiving turkey games!
Who do have in this week’s games?
There are a lot of crapola games, and some key matches that have Super Bowl implications.
Obviously the 49ers vs Ravens will be the big game of the week, and the Patriots vs Texans is the key AFC game.
But how can you make money this week off the NFL?
By taking my picks, that’s how silly!

Weather. One of the big things to watch this week are any games that are played on the East coast that are outside. There is a nasty ThanksG storm rolling across the shoreline, and with flights being cancelled-expect that this also applies to footballs that are thrown. Expect snow, heavy winds, and frigid turf. Running will be the way to go, but ball control will be even more important.
On Sunday’s like this, GO FOR THE UNDER!
Choose the Under on any games on the east coast this week with these ket home teams: NY Giants; Ravens; Steelers. The Bengals, Panthers & Dolphins could also see some gusts and cold conditions.

Here are some of the key games I think are good for parlays to punch your ticket to some NFL wins. I’m still hitting a wicked 66% of picks correct against the spread heading into these games, putting me ahead of most Vegas sports book makers and pundits. You can check all my scores each week with our picks and by listening to our podcasts.

Take these bets to BetRegal, and also look at our DraftKings League.

-2.5 Bucs (4-7) vs Jags (4-7)

The line on this game has changed a few times. I snagged it on a early ticket at -1 Jags, which was a steal. The Bucs are now 2.5 pt faves and rightly so. So long as Jameis can shuttle the ball without dropping it, TB should be able to bust the ball deep into the cats end. The Jags have seen their D drop in talent dramatically, and are a shell of their former selves. Nick Foles better do something at home, or he will soon be looking for another job. Bucs should easily be able to handle their Florida brother cousin lovers.
Bucs WIN

Titans (6-5) vs -1 Colts (6-5)

The line on this one was originally 2.5 for the Colts, but has changed due to injuries and the heat of the Titans. Yes, they have won a few straight and Tannehill is pumping it like a champ, but this is a divisional bugaboo. The Colts have owned the Titans at home, and this should continue Sunday. Brissett and the boyz need to get that ball moving fast and deep into the Titans secondary. The have the defense to limit Henry, & if they put the pressure on Tannehill the Titans will make mistakes.
Colts WIN

-2 Browns(5-6)  vs Steelers (6-5)

The helmet game is back again! Tensions will be simmering after massive mantras for calm in this divisional slugfest. The Browns are beaming after the win a few weeks ago, while Mason Rudolph will be a mere witness in this contest. It’s the Steelers at home, so they should be more focused and driven to deliver with Duck at the helm. The Steelers are gutted by injuries so they will have to see what they can bandage in this one. I like them to chase Baker and for them to make mistakes. The weather is going to be horrible, so home field is a good bet.
Steelers WIN

The weather is going to make betting tough this week, so it’s a good week for home teams and favourites.

Good luck this week!

Fun in London

November 1, 2019 by nflinlondon

Welcome to London, one of the most amazing cities in the world.
Hope you have some fun stuff planned, but if not-we can help you out.
Sports, culture, iconic spots, food, booze-we got you covered.
You’re here for the Texans vs Jaguars? Or just to feel the NFL vibe of the city?
Here are a few things to help you get your weekend sorted and have some fun.

Rugby World Cup

It’s England vs South Africa-not since the Boer War have we seen such animosity on the rugby pitch.
England knocked off the Kiwis with a solid D that would make the Patriots proud.
South Africa got rid of the pugnacious Welsh team, but England has a solid squad, and the Brexit papers to justify the immigrant core who fill out the team.
Head to a local pub-not a chain. Go out of the way. Meet locals.
It will be a fun game.
England SHOULD win..but if they don’t-look at the score, smile and walk away.

Clocks Up!

And there goes your sleep advantage! The clocks change back in North America as we begrudge ‘lazy farmers’ and their work-ethic traditions. Make sure you know the Texans vs Jags game starts at 2:30pm.

Football

Saturday is football (soccer) so dive in, cheer & do don’t talk politics or teams.
Just don’t. You will look stupid & Brits love taking the piss.
You can try to snag London tickets, but the best is to cosy up to a pub and meet some new folks.
Venture away from central London and hit the local pubs-you meet the coolest people there.
Arsenal are at home, which makes north London a nut punch, & West Ham & Watford play later, so maybe try to get a ticket?
Loads of punters will be WASTED if England win, and wasted & angry if they don’t.
Prepare accordingly.

NCAA Football

So you’re here in LAWN-DAWN and you want to watch college ball? Be patient. It only airs on 2 cable channels here so the pickings is slim.
You can either head to Belushi’s London Bridge (packed) or Bodean’s (closes early).
If you want the BEST way to watch college football, find a friend who has the nicest hotel and convince the staff to open their 24hr bar & put it on BT Sport ESPN.
You will get the games, and if they have more than 1 Sky Box-you will get 2.
You can also find most games on Reddit, just search in.
London bars will not play it, not care if you are missing it.

Fireworks

Hope you don’t have a dog/ war veteran/ recent immigrant from a war-torn country with you, because this weekend gets loud. Rolling up to Guy Fawkes Day, things get pretty boomy in the sky.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night

If you do want to check out some festivities, head north to Ally Pally. You may not get into the Palace fireworks, but pubs in Crouch End, Highgate & Muswell Hill will give you full vantage.

Fireworks lead up to the celebration of Guy Fawkes Day on Nov 5th. Weekends are ripe with blast shows, so make sure you check them out-unless you hate crowds and loud noises.
Then just stay in.

Diwali

It’s the Hindu festival of light, and wow do they light up London. Many of the activities take place around Trafalgar Square, but you can find events & celebrations around the city. Find out why Indian food is the national dish of Britain-it’s AMAZING!
Most of the celebrations are near Trafalgar Square, but it will be hot all around the city. It is one of those places you have to search out, but it’s well worth it.
Try to get in at Dishoom as well. One of the best Indian places in London. You will see massive queues, but once you eat it, you will see why.

Camden Market/Zoo

Camden Market is crazy on the weekend, & so is the London Zoo. But there is a way to do both in one day without hassle. Want to know how? Book a barge from the locks, prebook a London Zoo ticket and you can explore the market, and get a quick, backway to the zoo.
It’s totally cool.
Camden is a fun daytime place to hang, although it is crazy busy-so venture afoot from the market.
Gets a bit dodgy by the canal at nights-so watch your head.
Ask a pretty face where the party is, and you are guaranteed for a fun night. Head past the stables for late nights. If you’re looking for NFL or sports-no dice.
We aren’t going to give you links.
They don’t pay us, & you’re big enough to Google.

Saturday Night

So you’re heading out, and ready to party in London?
There are loads of areas to go, but surprisingly the best places are around your hotel.
Don’t chase late night venues with clues given by cab drivers-go where the action is, and in many cases it’s close to you.
London loves to drink & do drugs-so be prepared.
Where you go will determine your night.
Buckle in. We will give you a brief allotment of choices based on your being.

Upper Street

One of the coolest walks in London. Between Angel & Highbury & Islington station, there are loads of bars and fun here. The best place for a Sat night out. If you’re looking for the most solid place for food, drinks & fun-just head here.
Just up from the station and moving towards Highbury & Islington is Upper Street, one of the coolest bar strips in London. Amazing venues, cool people, and a fun London vibe.
Angel is your BEST place to have fun on a Saturday night, as well as find late night Sunday fun.
Walk the length of Upper street & you are bound to hit a few bars that pop all night.
Best of all, it’s ‘local’ so it’s not as touristy and dickish.
Late night transport, drunky food & more.

Old Street

Roadtrip Bar & loads of places up Commercial st are open late. Meet some cool people-you might get an all-nighter.You are close to Shoreditch and all of the cool underground venues.
Walk around the side streets and pop into whatever venue peaks your interest. There are so many venues to explore.
Shoreditch high street also has some joints open until the wee hours.

Leicester Square

Leicester Square is London’s dumpster fire. While tourist marvel at the pigeons, & M&M store, a darker evil lurks. Pretty much, it’s where gangs and sex traffickers ply their trade and steal your stuff.
The casinos lack the class, size and fun of a US casino, & their sports offering is suspect.
You might lose your wallet/ phone/ identity.
Why bother?
Crobar is fun on a Saturday-that’s the only reason to be there. Bar Italia is also a peach for a 24 venue. Great if you lose your friends and need a place to meet up.
www.crobar.co.uk

Comedy

Want to see some great comedy? Head to Bethnal Green where the Backyard Comedy Club has great shows going on this week. The fabulous American comedian Russel Hicks is doing a set, plus the rest of the line-up is ace. London has more stand-up shows tan NY, LA, & TO combined-find out why comedy is ace here.
The Backyard is in hipster-villa Bethnal Green, so you will find plenty to do after.

Here are some of our top safety tips for London this weekend:

  • The tube is always better-download a tube map.
  • Download Citymapper-it will make your journey easier
  • 90000 people leave Wembley-expect delays-police on horseback, and jammed trains
  • Book ahead-have Uber on your phone & know where you’re going after the game
  • Watch yourself at ATMs-Soho junkies will try to roll you
  • Stay local-if you’re in a cool hood-explore & meet the pub/ people/ vibe
  • London is NOT a 24 hr city-have a plan
  • NEVER get in an unlicensed taxi

Texans/ Jags Afterparty

November 1, 2019 by nflinlondon

Where you going after the game?
The Jags vs Texans game ends around 6pm, so fans will want to get out as quick as possible.
Unfortunately, at Wembley that won’t happen.
90,000 fans are leaving that stadium all hell-bent on getting out & getting home through every orifice of the stadium.

Instead of heading back to the crushing disappointment of Leicester Square, or the dead zones of Soho…join us at a sweet-ass pub in Crouch End?

This North London boozer has loads of TVs, great food, cold beer and is open until 1am.

Best of all, it’s only a 30 minute Uber from the stadium.

Come on down to the Princess Alexandra, and have a great NFL’ing time!
