London-Princess Alexandra

October 5, 2019 by nflinlondon

Welcome to London!
Hope you are all having a splendid time here in the UK, and that you are very excited to see the Sunday game between the Bears & Raiders at Tottenham stadium.

If you’re not going to the game-join us to watch it at the Princess Alexandra, in leafy Crouch End.
It is a traditional British pub, that has been set up for sport-so you will have loads of angles to watch the games.
princessalexandran8.co.uk

If you are planning on joining us after the game-grab a ticket now! The late license takes us until 4am-WAY later than most of the places you will find in London.

It will be a great NFL party in a traditional British pub.
Warm your feet by the fire after a wet night of victory.
Close to central London, the stadium, and with late night travel links.

Here are some top tips for getting to us on Sunday.

Getting There
Crouch End is one of the 3 hamlets of this area of north London-along with Muswell Hill and Highgate.
While there isn’t a tube station in the village-Finsbury Park station is less than 10 minutes away via the W7 or W3 buses.
Archway station on the Northern line, also has a direct bus-41, that takes you close to the pub.
You can also get there via overground rail links via Hornsey or Harringay stations, which are close by bus as well.
The 91 and 41 buses can also get you there from Trafalgar Square or Archway.
Or just take an Uber, screw it. It’s your vacation.
tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/w7/

The Pub
A locally owned pub with a great tradition of sport. There are 3 massive tvs and a HUGE projector, so all of the NFL games will be playing throughout the night.
There are 2 outdoor areas as well, so you smokers will be taken care of.
Getting to the Game
Tottenham Stadium/ White Hart Lane/ WHL is very close to Crouch End, & has a sneaky way of reaching it. Walk out of the pub 300m to the right, & on your left hand side is Park Road bus stop served by the W3 bus. Tap your bank card or Oyster card to ride. It’s about 30 minutes-19 stops direct to the stadium, & you will bypass a lot of traffic and police cordons. Arsenal play at 2pm, so the game should finish by 4pm. Time your journey to avoid the rush. 3pm or 5pm would be ideal. Since there’s no tailgate at the stadium nor atmosphere for 60000 fans, try to stay where you are then bolt at the last minute to get in and save money.
tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/w3/

Food
Loads of great pub grub. Since it is a Sunday-the Sunday roasts will be flowing until we run out. There will also be wings, burgers, nachos and other nibbles to sop up the booze. Earlier you get there, the more food available. Victory tastes good.

The Party
Loads of Bears fans will descend on the Alex in celebration after a crushing win over the Raiders. We will be showing loads of 6pm games-Bears vs Raiders, NFL Redzone as well as the 9pm games of Packers vs Cowboys. Will A-a-ron beat Dax in this hot contest? The 1am game between the Colts and Chiefs will also pop on to close out the night. Please make sure you have a ticket, we don’t want people disappointed they can’t get in.

Parking
Loads of parking in Crouch End, and anything north of Priory Park is FREE all night. So even if you have to ditch the wheels, you’re set. It’s a quiet hood, so you won’t have far to park on the council streets.
Crouch End is close to the north circular in case you need to boogie outta town.

Getting home
It’s 4am-how do you get home? The tubes are closed-but the buses are not. Luckily the N91 bus goes straight to Trafalgar square via Kings Cross in 40/20 minutes. Easy peasy. Also, if you have Uber on your phone-you’re set. It’s about £15 to central London at that time of night-unless they surge price.
There is also a local park (Priory Park) you can probably sleep in for free if you’re adept at scaling 5 foot fences. You might get spray-tagged by local hoodlums before you rise, but it serves as a potential respite from a boozy game. Forecast calls for rain, so tune up your hobo skills.
www.tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/n91/

Tickets
You will need tickets after 9pm. We do this so the bar knows how many people are coming, and we can let you in on the offer. £5 for a ticket & includes a welcome beer. Where in London do you get a ticket that includes a FREE pint for a fiver?
It will be a busy night, so please make sure you buy in advance.

Week 5 Preview

October 5, 2019 by nflinlondon

Welcome to London NFL fans!
Are you ready for some football?
As Tottenham prepares for a Beardown on the Raiders, the city is buzzing with tourists and excitement.

Wade & Ryan preview the big game, with Bears fan Wade having a bit of a bias in this one.

They also look at some of the other big games on Sunday and preview some of their tips & scores.

Including:

Cardinals (0-3-1) @ Bengals (0-4)
What a crap game this is going to be. Even Redzone will struggle to show highlights.
Plan on a low score with lots of sacks. It’s like a Charlie Brown special.
Wade is going with the Bengals 21-20, and Ryan has the Cardinals winning their first game 20-14.

Jets (0-3) @ Eagles (2-2)
Fresh of a spanking of the Packers, the Eagles look to move past the Darnold-less Jets.
Will Luke Falk Falk it up? All signs point to yes.
Wade & Ryan both have the Eagles in this one 24-7 & 24-23.

Listen for more top tips from our guys!

See you Sunday!

London-Gameday Tips

October 4, 2019 by nflinlondon

It’s Bears vs Raiders at Tottenham stadium!
You excited?
You should be, it’s going to be a great game and the atmosphere at the new stadium is electric.
This is the first of many more games to come, and a great fan experience.
There are a few things you should know, so we put together a list of some things to be aware of.

Arsenal
Wait, you’re starting with football?
Yes, because Emirates stadium is pretty close to Tottenham, and they are playing a home game at 2pm.
What does that mean for you? It will be busy. VERY BUSY.
All of the tube stations from Highbury & Islington to Tottenham Hale will be packed with police moving the crowds.
The game ends after 4-so expect a HUGE crush of people then.
If you are travelling-try to time it while the game is on.

Weather
Welcome to Britain, and welcome to rain. It isn’t usually this wet, but Sunday looks particularly horrible. The tail-end of a hurricane will drop almost 2 inches of rain in 6 hours on Sunday. Most of the stadium is covered-but expect the wetness to seep into your bones.

Travel
As per the earlier note regarding Arsenal playing, the tube lines will be packed.
There are other options including the Overground, which will take you right to the station from Liverpool Street. Buses are the best option, as their routes carve through traffic and get you there with height. The W3 bus leaves from near The Princess Alexandra where we are hosting our after party. It’s 25 minutes direct to the stadium. Parking around the stadium is also pretty tight.

Tottenham
It’s a storied area of London, that has been undergoing loads of gentrification in the past decade. It still has its shady areas, and it is a bit rough and tumble around the stadium.
This is NOT central London-so don’t expect the same amenities. It will also close early, so once you leave the game-most of the pubs will be shutting down.

Football
Sunday is football in Britain, and by that we mean soccer.
The games kick off at noon, with the last game kicking off at 4:30. This derby between Newcastle & Manchester United will go until about 6:30. Most London sports bars will not turn this off for the NFL, even if the score is 10-0. Head to the Princess Alex, where they will have the start of the Bears vs Raiders.

Drinking
Tottenham area is cheaper than central London to drink, & you can find some nice authentic pubs close to the grounds. A sloppy Carly might cost you £3 at a Spoons if you know what we mean. Pints at the stadium are £6.50, so save your currency. Remember to not to get too drunk, it ruins your time and the experience of everyone around you. If one of your mates is too wasted, they will be ejected. Take care of your friends. As mentioned earlier if you’re looking for a post game drink, Tottenham will be shut.

Before the Game
There is no such thing as tailgating here, so most people will be drinking in the crammed pubs around the stadium, and there aren’t a lot of them. Time your journey up and where you want to gather/ meet prior. Many pubs will be jammed with football fans-so keep that in mind.
Add time to your journey on the tube, and keep in mind the weather-which is crap.
You might be better off finding a pub close’ish to the stadium and make your way there.

After the Game
London is NOT a 24 hour city, especially on a Sunday.
There are a few venues and areas that will be open late, but won’t cater to NFL fans.
The casinos in Leicester Square can hold 200 NFL fans MAX between them both, and will not play sound on the games-so keep that in mind as you probably won’t get in.
It is a pretty nasty area, so you may not want to be there anyway.
Sports Bars will shut by 11pm, but the Princess Alexandra in Crouch End will be open until 4am-so join us there!

Bags
There is a clear bag policy in effect at the stadium, so watch what you bring. What do you really need to bring anyway? Perhaps a phone charger, but the more you carry-the more you can lose. You probably won’t need your passport, as the UK isn’t as vigilant in checking for ID.

Swag
If you’re looking to buy NFL swag or London trinkets-do you really need to get them there? You can probably buy everything at home, or online & the prices will make your eyes water.
Plus you have to lug it around all night in the rain. And you might lose it.
Is it worth carrying all the crap?

Enjoy Sunday! See you at the Princess Alexandra in Crouch End for pints after!
